No such thing as a good lease purchase!
-
I think most lease purchases will require you to drive the truck yourself. There won't be enough money to pay a driver after you pay the lease and all the add on charges. If you want to put a driver in the truck then you need to buy a truck outright or go through a leasing company. Unless you have driving experience I would advise against buying a truck and putting a driver in it. Doing so is a great way to go broke FAST!!

The lease purchase program at most carriers who do them, seems to be just a profit center to offset their cheap freight rates. I don't blame any of them for wanting to make a profit off of using their money. Some try to make more than it would be worth to me. No more than most can make after expenses, I would rather stay a company driver. A major factor in owning your own truck is to earn more money. If you make the same or less leasing a truck than you can as a company driver I don't see that it is worth all the added hassle.

If you lease,
you can have your pet in the truck.
Your name painted on the door.
And all the hometime you can afford....................... -
That may be true with some carriers, but not all. Some will not even allow owner operators to have pets in their own trucks due to some shippers not allowing pets on their property and the potential liability. When you lease a truck it still belongs to the carrier and they may want to prohibit drivers from putting pets in trucks that the driver doesn't own. If you plan to lease, it would be best to check with the carrier with whom you want to lease a truck before signing on the dotted line. -
You should make far more than a company driver to own or lease a truck. After you pay expenses (including your driver's wage) & taxes you should make at least a 10% return to your business...$20K on $200,000 of revenue. If not, it is not worth the risk, and I would look for a different investment of my money. This money goes to replace equipment, cover unforseen costs, and eventually provide you a nest egg. If you are not getting ahead, you are better off to remain a company driver.
