Do not forget we all came from different trades and is quite normal to be shocked in the beginning. When I first started to drive trucks back in Europe I was on my way to give up on trucking and was complaining about everything. But after driving for 3 months for a state mining company in Yakutsk, Russia during the winter (-40 F), in a truck with an AC out of order every 10-11 days, when I returned to Western Europe I stopped to complain at all So here when I get my licence I do not think I'll have a problem. But sometimes there are people who just can't do it at all I guess.

In regard to the five that were listed, the only way to make good money with them is to get into one of their dedicated divisions. Starting driver pay is notoriously bad, regardless of where you go in a major company. After 6 mos. experience the pay rises.
A private fleet is usually your best bet. Look for one that has a good CSA company score, that will tell you how they run their fleet. If it's a bad score, avoid them, regardless of the pay package.
Good luck and remember, it's your career, not theirs. Keep it legal and you'll survive in the long run. -

There no such thing as the best company. Everything depends on the driver and what he is capable of doing and what he wont. A good company will let you run the way you like and bad companies will make you do as the say. Some driver are good company drivers and some drivers make lousy lease operators and some driver are good owner operator but are lousy owners of companys and some owners of companies cant drive a truck to save their lives. You just have to find the right connection

Companies that hire students are Swift, Werner, Knight basically most of the big major companies. They generally are all crappy but starting you have to go where you can. I only have 2 yrs OTR but have 5yrs over all, companies won't count my local exp. hauling logs. So when I wanted to go over the road Swift was the only one that would hire me. With them I sat a lot but seen a lot of the students that started at less per mile than me running more miles than me. After 6mos. I left them and went to Werner at first I was running great miles the my DM got promoted and got a newbie for a DM and miles dropped off so I left them went local again. Then a real good friend of mine worked for Knight and wanted me to team with him to make some quick cash because his wife is having a baby this month. Knight was ok over-all. This is my experiences, I hope this helps any of you guys out. Sorry for bring back suck a old post...

If you are willing to do physical labor and drive a truck the options of high paying jobs increases tremendously. Food service, house hold shipping, flat beds, oversized loads and car hauling will pay the best. I have been driving for 17 years and currently work for Mbm. I make around 100 k per year and run mostly 2 and 3 day routes. I have the option to be home daily as well. Postal contractors pay well also most average around 25 per hour.
