Linde Group/Industry, CA. terminal. Formerly with the "old" and now out of business Big 3 Industries (Houston, TX. ), then Air Liquide after the merger. I haul liquid hydrogen, nitrogen, oxygen and argon. I used to haul anhydrous. Be VERY careful as Chalupa has said. Years ago, I was unloading at a steel plant in South Gate, CA. Fitting leaked. To this day I still have damage to one of my lungs because of it. If you smell it, it's usually too late. Masks didn't do a darn bit of good..Also, AirGas is pretty infamous for the politics. Just show up and do the job.

I was thinking of branching out into cryo hauling... I was going to call it Ted Williams Trucking.

Don't laugh..we used to supply the nitrogen to the place in Phoenix where ol' Ted's head is preserved at. Now Air Products supplies them. They used to have a branch in Chatsworth CA. That went defunct and we pulled our tanks. Pretty gross that the coroner had to pull the parts out of the tanks. Why someone actually would be willing to pay 100+K for body preservation and 60K a year is beyond me..And Ted was pretty old when he passed away anyway.

Any opinions on Cryogenic Transportation? Their website looks good, but the websites always do.

Low pay (.35cpm) lousy working conditions, poor benefits and they are always trying to do a "fleece purchase" on you. Bottom feeders of the cyogenic business.

I'm mostly seeing local drivers wanted with this segment of trucking. Any good companies hiring OTR drivers?

is CTI having much of an impact where you work? what prevents carriers like them from pulling down wages for all cryo drivers?

I don't know really, other than we work under a union contract. CTI was pulling for us at plant in PA, but couldn't keep drivers due to the wages. CTI and Jack B. Kelley were both purchased in 2011 by KagWest. Interesting enough the parent company of KagWest is Goldman-Sachs, those same people that brought you the mortgage meltdown. Now they are trying to control the tank truck industry. I guess foreclosing on peoples homes is no longer financially viable.

that is interesting about goldman, i was not aware of that fact. i saw some info on the teamsters website about it, since you mentioned it.

thekag seems like they have acquired or are in a deal with many tank carriers out there. i saw an article that has them as the largest tank truck carrier and behind them was trimac and quality carriers. this was according to revenues.

i see CTI down here in south florida once in awhile, looks like oxygen trailer for the hospitals.

is anhydrous ammonia hauled in a compressed gas tank (smaller version of a propane tank) ? or is it cryogenic in an insulated tank?
