Vapor hook-ups

It was a natural gas by product that was put into the cheaper brands of gas. The ratio was 10% ethanol, 15% raffenate, 75% gasoline. If you have ever bought gas at one of those independent cheap places and thought the gas had a funny odor, that was the raff in it. We got paid by the load, nothing extra. I didn't stick around there very long. Chemical Leaman had just opened the Columbus terminal and I got on there and stayed almost 10 years.

 

How bout delivering to a station that doesnt have VR!!! that'll make you scratch your head for a bit. And no, it wasnt a coax fitting drop.

 

Yup, small BFE town, station didnt have to meet epa requirements. Surprised that its even possible anymore.

 

When I hauled gas and fuel, no one had vapor recovery. Everything was vented about 20' into the air. Even some of the racks were top load, and some of the bottom loaders didn't have vapor recovery.

Whats ruff is some small places that would not hold a full compartment, the vent only a few feet off the ground, and you are standing over the drop, which is just a straight ell, no clamps, surrounded by vapors, listening, in order to cut the valve off before it overflows.

 

I know some South Carolina gas stations don't have VR. When I worked with Eagle there were a few like that in the Myrtle Beach area. I'm with Wilco now and all of their stations have them and if you get caught not hooking up you will be fired.

 

There are still a few stations around AZ with no VR for gas. You can hear the check ball bouncing in the stations vent tube (the ball keeps liquid from coming out but allows air in and out).

There is not much danger around the trailer because its just clean air being pulled into the vent (assuming you remembered to open it, you're probably already shopping for a new trailer if you forgot), the danger is on the ground around the vent stack. The fuel vapor is blowing out that tube and the vapor settles at the lowest place.

 

It takes an extra 3 minutes to hook up a vapor hose, Anyone that is that much of a rush should have taken the day off.

 

i have never used vapor recovery for offloading. I actually barely know what you guys are talking about. ive never been to a station that is even set up for it apparently. every station ive ever been to just has the vent pipes, most of time up way to high for me to get to if i wanted. i guess maybe it is true that we are about 50 years behind the rest of the world here in nd

 

It would look like another delivery fill except it has a plunger in it.. Usually its painted Orange to identify what it is.. All stations have vent tubes to let air into the tanks while fuel is dispensed at the pumps.
