umm you can show the cat scale ticket, show (inside the door jamb) of the truck is a white sticker with the GVWR of the truck, same should apply with the trailer.
-
they go by gvwr of truck + trailer, its really kind of stupid but they can get you on just the weight rating alone. but it is the law.
what you need is a new vin tag for your trailer, if your truck is 12200, which I believe it is, you need the vin tag on the trailer to be 13800 gvwr.
must manufacturers will make you a new tag with a lower gvwr for like $40, you just call them and give them the trailer vin.
Im shocked you got away with it for 8 years, guys get put out of service for that everyday.Last edited: Jan 13, 2012

I do have to ask why you a running a trailer with a 20k gvwr if you can only haul 12300# legally ???

How can you have a 2008 dodge,
and have drove it for 7 years ?????? -
You have to have Class A cause of the trailer weight rating.
You can run Non CDL if you like to keep from having IRP and IFTA.
But you stilll have to have a CDL A. That one will probably be expensive and if you don't fight it could cause you problems on getting a class A CDL. -
What ticket did he get? Sounds like driving a CMV without a CDL. Bad ticket.
I've often wondered how guys got away with this. Guess "they don't" is the correct answer. -
Ok I also want to know how you drive a 2008 truck for the last 7 years, is my math that poor.
