i'm tired of going to the dealer and getting nothing fixed! and when they do "fix" something they only half fix the problem!
the truck is a 2003 freightliner columbia 12.7 Detroit 10 speed with sleeper.
my problem is, i have no interior lights! no over head lights. none of the 4 in cab 12v outlets work.
i did notice the fuse box behind the drivers door had a little fire. i originally thought that was the problem. fuse box was replaced and still nothing works.
today i went out with a test light, (i need to buy a multimeter)
i have no power to the cigarette lighter fuse on either or the 2 fuse boxes.
no power on the dash nor the one behind the door..
where do i check next?
2003 columbia no power outlets and no interior lights! help! please

Check the wiring under the hood, look for wire that look soft or pulled , all you do is poke around til you find where one side lights up and the other side doesn,t, you don,t need a milti meter, test lights are fine ligt means volts are there,
-
So you know i own several meters, but rarely use them, there only used if you need to find 12 V in a 24 volt system or looking for weak volts, like cb repai or dim light, most times all you look for is if its there, plus if its weak a test lgt will be dim

It sounds like the box brunt up, they most likely cut out all the bad wires when replacing the box, they may have over looked a wire cut close to the harness, or the wire may have sucked up in the harness, so look for missing wires going into the box.

Sorry for so many posts here my good phone dyed, and this one limits the spaces i can type in.

It sounds like your low voltage protection switch. The batts are low or the switch was wired around and won't come back on. Restarting the truck usually fixes the problem- but not if the low voltage switch was tampered with. Defective switch?
It's a longshot, but maybe a total loss of ground between the cab and batts?bow2no1 Thanks this. -
I would think since he said the fuse bix area is brunt up,that it was deemed un important or no one realizd there was no power going to the sleeper after they changed it seem it many times.
bow2no1 Thanks this. -
i had this same problem two weeks ago in my case it was the wire that ran from the firewall back to the battery box it was grounding out on the frame and melted the wire at the battery my truck is a 2005 so its the same truck start at the battery and go foward
rabbiporkchop, Bryson Hughes and bow2no1 Thank this. -
i just started driving for this guy a few weeks ago. the outlets and the interior lights have not worked as long as i have been driving it. before i had driven it the truck had been sitting for a couple months and we had to jump the batteries to get her started.

I hate having to fix problems made by others, a simple wiring problem gets hella nasty once someone jerry rigs things, just keep folling the wires til you find where it gets hot again, good luck with it.
