I have been in the logging industry from northern maine for 7 years now and it keeps spiraling out of control between poor rates and the weather controlling when we work and when we do not. Its to the point now where we can haul from mid december to mid march steady. Then we usually sit home or haul whatever we can find for nothing until mid june (depending on the year) the last few years from mid june till december we usally dont even get full weeks due to rain...last year for example i grossed 180000 and netted only 13000 due to all the repairs and tires and all the other b.s. that goes along with logging. keep in mind that 180 to 230000 is about what your going to be able to do hauling 14 to 20 hours a day, hauling overloaded all the time just to break even. So basically the writing is on the wall and my family and i are willing to move to who knows where as long as the money is good and the area is nice...something like hauling coal, gravel, lowbeding, or anything to do with a truck with 600hp 18 speed, 46rears with full locks 4.10ratio, sleeper and a driver that is willing to outdo the rest...any input and contacts for potential work will be greatly appreciated

What about hauling asphalt for the state and snow removal in the winter? Oh wait, what snow? Lol I feel your pain man. The load you have on that trailer looks like what I use to hit the bridge in Greenville every night with. My boss had no problem loading over 160,000 and make me head for Daquam at 2am to avoid DOT. Ild say poland springs or earthgrow but that ain't heavy and with those gears you must suck fuel going over 60. Were you planning on leasing on with someone? I know sargent is screaming for o/o's and they will lease you a trailer if you need it. Idk.... good luck!

Thanks for the ideas. I'm just sick of working to death & not being able to afford pampers....there HAS to be a better way when a person is willing to work this hard

Are you hauling into canada or delivering to the mills in state?sounds like a lot of repairs is what's killin ya.

Try out WEST like Nevada for heavy haul
Logtruck08 Thanks this. -
Keen and Daily Express are the big guys, and both have terminals in Carlisle PA. If you bought a RGN, you could come over here to Landstar as we have plenty of HH freight and a couple agents in Maine.

Picaso--I go into Canada some. The Golden Road is where so much of the expenses came from, it tears up equipment. The Golden years on the Golden road are gone . Yes on the repairs and shorter & shorter work times & landowner's not taking care of the roads is why I want to get out of logging.

I just pull a step, but have talked to the lady in Houlton a few times. I don't watch the RGN boards (yet), so I don't know who the real players are. We also have quite a bit of Eastern provinces Canadian freight. Time to catch the ferry. I would definitely call the other companies I named as well, as I think they would jump on a NE heavy haul driver as no one wants to go there.
