Relocating to Toledo, OH for Trucking Jobs

I would call this school and see what companies recruit their students, then call the companies directly, expressing your need to relocate. I would just ask the school to email you their list of current companies, as if you were a perspective student. You might get lucky and find out what days the recruiters come in for that particular company and pay a visit. Be prepaired to get training quickly, even if it maybe months before you will actually relocate.

I also see on their website they list some of the common starter companies, as well as a local company: Garner Trucking......that might be your best shot, if they will accept your schools certificate. I see this company even offers a :$500 Weekly Minimum Guarantee which is great for a new driver just getting started.

Just a little advice. You've got a hard road to go to find that type of work being new to the industry. Whatever it takes just remember your wife is number one and making sure she is safe and secure is paramount. It doesn't matter if you have to be gone for days or weeks just make sure she has the help she might need for any situation. Maybe you could find a job working the dock until the baby comes and you're in a better position to move. Of course the ideal situation would be help from the in-laws. If you have a problem like most of us have had maybe it's time to swallow your pride and do what is best for her. I'm just saying. Trucking will always be there and so will the jobs. You might have to jump through more hoops if you wait but your family is the priority. Good luck.

 

I would suggest that you pack up for a few days and go to OH and then go door to door for a job. Everybody applies on line or by the phone then sits and waits. Think outside the box and go to a company you like and see them. I know we would have more appreciation for a new driver if that driver came in and explained why he or she wanted to work there. You will place a face to your application which will be a huge plus. Also you'll let them know you are doing this for a family so they will know you're there to stay. It's different when you look at applications then look at one with the applicant sitting right there in front of you. Don't let them turn you away. Keep after the job you like and they will get the idea you really want to work there. I hope that makes sense and good luck.

 

If I lived in Toledo I'd try and find a job that uses Day Cabs and runs between Chicago or Detroit.

But with you being new in the field you may not be able to find that (if that interests you). Also take gashauler's comments and have at it . Wish the best to your family and future career.

 

Toledo is right on 80-90, "main street of mid america". Just about ANY company should hire you.

 

No experience 99% no local work....Not trying to discourage just being realistic....99% of drivers do a year OTR before they can apply for local..Got to pay your dues so to speak..

 

Conway and Saia are both hiring for their LTL divisions>NO experience required. Polish up your resume and get one of those good paying home every night LTL jobs.

 

Trucking, from my limited exposure, is not a career that provides considerable home time.

But when budgeted well it can pay the bills.
