And they are taking loads away from those that would have hauled them from the staging area, but that seems to be unimportant.

 

It just seems that there is just a sore spot with the Mexican truckers. Everyone seems to think of them the same as the illegals.

I believe they are underpaid. This could be a major problem. Not from the illegal standpoint, but from a frustrated Mexican truckers point. They will then try to see about coming over here legally. This is a point like you said has been beat to death.

I wonder how many of the american companies own Mexican firms and if so what they pay their drivers. It is possible these companies have found a way to move the freight cheaper from the staging areas on up by investing in Mexican firms.

The pay is a concern.

 

you can be resourcefull the dollar menu at most major chains with fast food joints may not fill you up but it will feed you.

Didnt the mexican industry put on 86k new drivers last year hmm turnover? or border expectancy?

 

You posted what I was going to Road. Seems to me they would feel very bad when they start seeing what other truckers are making here. I'm sure they have an idea already but being around them (other truckers earning more) all the time may get them to where they ask for more pay too?

 

This is exactly why the big companies have "told" the ATA to support this crap. Companies like Schneider, Celadon, JB, all the big boys, invested into this in the 90's, and have pushed to get it passed ever since.

They no longer have to pay an American Truck Driver .45 cents per mile to haul freight from the border to a receiver, or from a shipper to the border.

Their plan has worked, and sadly the American Truck Driver has let it work because rather than staying on top of this issue for the past couple decades, they for the most part ignored it until it became a reality a few months ago, and then go "up in arms" about it.

There is a big lesson to be learned here, and it is still not too late to push back and stop this mess.

 

Thats exactly right, and it goes to the very top, where it could have been stopped, but you see dubya cares very little for what happens with the truckers in this country. It does not matter which joe blow president introduced this krap in NAFTA, CAFTA, or any other krappy agreement. If the U.S. had the balls, they would say NO, so forget that happening.

 

I was insinuating that the goal of the owners is to flood the market with CHEAP LABOR legal or not. I think it goes right to the point. I have no doubt that the Mexican drivers coming across now are all legal to enter. But if they can get thousands more you will see wages drop just as in the construction, manufacturing, meat processing and other industries. 13cents a mile goes a long way in Mexico. And before long you will get the same old argument that they are only doing the jobs Americans are not willing to do anymore. I'm sure many Mexican drivers would love to come run up here and Canada for a few weeks at a time and take their wages back home. Say they run 6000 miles- that is
$ 780.00. That will pay for a nice hacienda south of the border.

 

I bet they will run more than 6000 miles. Hard telling how many drivers will be in that truck. Ever go to walmart and see about 15 of them get out of a car? Imagine how many can cram into a truck with a sleeper.
