Well there are 3 sides to every story, the driver, the company, and what really happened. Personally I have nothing bad to say about Pam, as with all companies you are gonna have those who choose to bad mouth them.

You are going to hear that about every company. I can honestly say that PAM treated me fairly and did what they said they were going to do. I left them to take a local job but am thinking about going back if they will have me because I miss the road. From my limited experience they do what they say and do not lie.
airforcetoo Thanks this. -
PAM does not always do what they say they are going to do. They promised 40K or up to it the first year. I have made 10 grand in six months. that sucks. They are starting to replace the fleet but that is messed up too. Me and my co driver saw a kid in PA whose truck broke down a few times and they handed him a 2010 and we drive a two aught seven. It was a double rig too!!! THe kid had six months experience. We LIVE every day in our rig and need room, he had a double sleeper and we are in this old rig. Its got a half a million on it and its starting to have problems. Your PAM time will be UP and DOWN. You will will be eating chicken one week, feathers the next. Its a newbie thing brother. I hate PAM, but my dispatcher is a decent person, the Weekend crew is AWESOME, the road rescue people are prompt and helpful (when you can get through), the payroll, HR and other departments are really helpful, but woefully understaffed. Just burn your year there, and you will get a big sympathy hug and job from your next carrier. Once that first year is done and you have no violations, speeds, points, accidents and your logs are clean, you get to take a pretty good step up. I will be close to forty four cents a mile with same bennys next year at another carrier and will probably choose someone who gets me home every two weeks. Good things can happen and i still beleive it. The one thing is that you don't have someone constantly looking over your shoulder and if you find a good team mate and the right company and can hunker down for two or three years, you could pay off some land a nice little cabin and then go regional..........that is what will happen for me. The woman and the dog and me out in the woods and when the dirt hits the fan in 2014 we will be tucked away safe and happy. FARM LIVIN!!!

The truck thing, that happens. It happened to me, and it happens to others. I brought a guy from Tontitown to Birmingham fresh out of orientation, to pick up his truck. Me, in an 06 9400, him, getting a 07 century. (not much of an improvement, but I would have rathered the century lol). You will eventually get out of that truck into a newer one.
All of the dispatchers I had were decent, but as you said they are really understaffed. I think PAM has too many drivers for the number of DM's they have, but hey, I'm just a driver. What do I know, right?airforcetoo Thanks this. -
Coming on 20 years with 15 at PAM, training for 10 years and haven't left yet.

I've been researching trucking companies for almost 2 years . I'm sure that there are better companies than PAM, but after talking to drivers from other companies that I am interested in working for and reading all that I can find about them on the net, it seems that the biggest diffirence between PAM and the others is pay. I have been with PAM for over a year. I can go with another company and start at more money per mile, but will more than likely get less miles. Also, I know PAMs way of doing things and what to realistically expect from them. I have only been late for home time 1 time, and only by a day. I am sometimes home a day early. I don't get phone calls telling me that I'm idling my truck too much, we are asked to do our best to conserve fuel, but stay comfortable. I've talked to drivers from other companies that are told that truck stops have a lounge, turn off your truck and go inside. Sure I'd like to make more money but I'm not doing too bad, and wouldn't I feel like a dumb ### if I went chasing the money only to end up with someplace worse than what I've got now. Heck I've seen people post that they have found something better than PAM, but they don't post the name of the new great company that they went to. Right now, I'm sticking with PAM
djtrype, skokz, airforcetoo and 2 others Thank this. -
I thought they were okay for a beginner.
You just have to talk to other drivers to learn procedural things and also what shops to go to for certain repairs. Or which shops to never go to if you can help it.DocFrank and airforcetoo Thank this. -
