Other than the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 I haven't sat longer than half a day for a load. In fact, if I do sit, it's by choice. They've sent me loads right after getting unloaded when I didn't have any hours available. I'm hoping PAM goes to the Tripac APUs in the near future. Communication is starting to get better, but there's still a lot of work needing to be done between departments. Operations has no clue what Road Rescue is doing. And the load planners are just in the dark.

Other than that, miles are to be had. You just have to want to run.

I usually don't sit much anymore. Had a DM change a while back, she stays on top of things and usually has me preplanned. I have gotten stuck in Laredo, waiting for a dispatch, a couple of times last month.

Unless you're team or a trainer, getting stuck in Laredo is common. You may not always see them because they sit all over the place, but on any given day, there are 20-40 trucks waiting for a load. Sometimes it is less, sometimes more. I rarely went to laredo when I was solo, and as a trainer I never spent more than 10 minutes empty down there, plus I quit a year ago lol..so I don't know how it is now. I'm sure it hasnt changed much. Even with Melton, when I go to laredo I usually spend half a day minimum empty there. Only good thing about Melton is there is a monitor with all the drivers waiting, and the order in which they'll leave. Unlike at PAM, where you are always "27th in line", no matter what place you are actually at lol

Yeah as a team, we spent like 5 minutes empty there in Laredo... PAM does run you, I've never been stuck in Texas solo though; a guy I went to orientation with was stuck down there though and told me he was averaging 300 miles. Though sometimes there's more to the story than that ... but I don't know. All I know is I've had a good experience money wise with PAM.

The issue I am having is that my co driver wants to go solo again. What that means is that team dynamic, which I do not care for because of the lack of sleep is the only way to consistenly make over 450 a week in trucking at PAM. We don't have our HazMat's so we are not getting some loads, that is our liability, but PAM is very inequitable to us for that reason. HazMat Teams get non Hazardous loads before we do and we have been informed that this preferential treatment is standard. So, I live with that limit, but I am going to chalk up this year as an apprenticeship and have found a wicked good company that is going to take me when my time is up. I was unhappy with PAM solo, which I have to do again and that is the reason for the desire to keep my current co driver. A really good man, we get along great, work well together and other than crappy sleep, the money has been decent. Going back solo will drop my pay about a hundy a week because of the crappy miles, but I only have three months to go and I get a two week vacation paid by my overpayment and free loan to PAM with the abandoned truck fund and July first through tenth are mine. The thing I hate most is that there are great people at PAM and then there are four or five who just make it miserable every ten days.
