Class A driver looking for local dump truck job.

    Hello.

    I am new to the cdl driving experience. I recently graduated from a CDL school and received my class A license. I went over the road for 3 months, but do not like it. what I want to do is try and find a dump truck job. Preferrably not one of the short dump trucks, but the tractor with the long trailer, and eventually get my own truck.

    My question is were do I go and how do I go about getting a job with a local dump truck company?, do I still have to go over the road for 2 yrs to get a dump truck job? What do dump truck drivers do during the winter.

    Here in Canada, the dump truck drivers are usually employed to remove snow from the city streets, but not sure about the snow situation where you live.
    Usually there is a grader and a front end loader and a line of dump trucks...

    In this part of Canada, too, a lot of the summer employed people end up working in the oilfields.

    You could always drive the snow plow? Just options...

    There are companies that will hire you with no experience,for local work, but those are usually the ones that can't keep drivers and have no choice but to hire the inexperienced. Having experience in the construction or agriculture fields helps alot. It might be better to start with a straight truck to get some dump exp. as they are a lot more forgiving than a long trailer, it ain't easy to stand a 35-40 foot trailer almost straight up if you don't know what you are doing
