can anyone tell me what kind of trucks are those.looks like they have very strong driveline

looks like each truck pulls about 350-410ton

(861ton of load 72 lines of trailer 4 are 13.5t so this is 243t) each truck is probably 30-40t and maybe 200-300-400ton that thing which hold load )

Most are Kenworth T800's and I saw one Western Star. All with planetary axles. Kenworth, Peterbilt and Western Star are the few mainstream companies here where your only limited by your checkbook when it comes to heavy options. (up to 4 frame rails, planetary axles, 2 steering axles with drive option, 3 rear drive axles ect.)

we consider that planetary hub reduction axles are necessary above 100t

or for lower weight if truck work harder (mud on construction sites )and if it cover only shorter distances

but here almost every 6x4 truck is with hub reduction axles

mercedes dont offer truck without them

why 4frame rails? that brings unnecessary weight and frame begin to rigid which in this case reduce its flexibility and result larger tire consumption

here man and mercedes are single chassis frame 9.5mm scania and volvo double which most people consider as too much

however mercedes man need some reinforcements on frame behind 5th wheel which come from factory where they weld steel plate 1.5ft long

    thick 10mm

does your heavy haulage trucks come original from factory or they are build like glider

or maybe that they come from factory as serial trucks and later someone exchange their components and put other

    in europe

MAN is only serial truck heavy haulage segment ex factory and it is best sale

mercedes use uncompleted tipper chassis send them to company titan who put gearbox wet clutch additional axles 5th wheel upgrade cooling .......

iveco do same with its company SIVI/astra but they come completed ex factory

renault dont have heavy haul trucks some are modified by finish company sisu but this is rare

daf dont have any serious heavy haulage trucks but its company ginaf can provide some

volvo was not so strong in heavy haulage transport

but they recently introduce fh16 600 (612hp) with allison automatic 4700 rated for 295t

scania is not strong in this segment but exist

its company Laxa (http://www.laxasv.se/ ) modified serial trucks to comply needs they put additional axle

    put 5th wheel

front and rear drawbar trailer coupling

remove original gearbox and put other with wet clutch

    put cooling for gearbox oil

    additional air compressor

    hydraulics......

here is one example of this

    reinforcement for coupling
    [IMG]

modifying rear chassis end from tractor adapted to drawbar
    [IMG]

    extending frame
    [IMG]
    it now looks like this
    [IMG]

here you can see on left cooler for gearbox oil, air barrels batteries , 2xfuel tanks hydraulic tank , additional air compressor

    spec about truck

    Scania R 620 LA 8x4/4 HNB for 250t(550 000lbs)

    engine 16-Liter V8 Euro 4 456 kW (620 HP),
    3.000 Nm (2215lbft)

gearbox is zf tc-tronic 12speed automated with wsk 440 wet clutch with primary retarder

all air suspension two steer axles one liftable 2drive

truck itself is not very strong it is 42t (92600lbs)

maybe largest reason why scania is so rare is its price

this one below cost 240 000€ without tax it does not have any equipment 620hp euro4 engine manual 16speed gearbox , it have low cab not any significant equipment ........and rear steel suspension air only on both front axles

for 220 000€ you can get 680hp man with largest cab automated gearbox lot of equipment like leather seats and more i think mercedes is even cheaper

I know that some of those European trucks are built tough. They make and move stuff just as big and heavy there as over here but I just have a hard time taking those fugly trucks seriously. They LOOK like a big toy, something that will turn into a robot and fire lasers at oncoming traffic or something. It's just what you're used to I guess.

These are about the only Heavy Haul American rigs used here , you could probably order a Mack Titan but thoes are mainly used on road trains or international offert some 150T trucks a few years back.
    http://www.classytrucks.org/WesternStar/WesternStar.Briantranscor.jpg

European trucks are mainly used here on this type of work now.
Years ago it was American trucks used.
You are correct it is what you are used to.
The EU trucks just inspire more confidence because we are more used to them.
All trucks have improved so we generally are comparing newer EU trucks with older American trucks and forming an opinion.
