Going to be back like the 70's when everyone was putting locked caps on their vehicles.

I put locking fuel caps on my truck. Luckily I fueled before that night. I left not knowing an the next night when I stopped to fuel someone I guess peed off cause they couldn't still my fuel filled the key holes with super glue. Ended up costing a little over 200 to get them cut off.

this what i did , i did think thru at the time, but i took two wires, a 9 volt battery and a decal for both sides of the truck, what i did was i took the two wires and super glue one too fuel cap, this was wire was a tad long, too tuck behind the fuel tank, then the other wire was super glued too the tank, then i built a small blinking light with a 9 volt battery then mount that under the sleeper ledge, but you could still it blinking, i had a swicth on for parking at night, the decal i made on pc,it read (these fuel tanks are armed with a alarm system) i dont know if work or not , but the blinking light was neet:biggrin_2559:

Never fuel when you come into the truck stop to shut down for the night. Thieves like to watch who filled up, then wait for them to go park. They then go park next to the truck and wait for the driver to go shower or eat.
Then it's a simple job to siphon the fuel from the tank.
A friend of mine made a locking mechanism that I had put on my truck too.
It's a simple heavy duty hasp that was 'moulded' to fit over the cap. One end is welded to the fuel tank, the other piece is welded on the other side of the cap.
Then you use a simple padlock to secure it and no one bothers you.

    Holy necropost, batman!

Sounds like the guy in the original article had locking fuel caps from the damage mentioned...they defeated them anyway and got the fuel.

I can't stand a thief. I'd put a locking gas cap on my POV but they could punch the tank from the bottom and drain it, and it if they wanted to, and I'd then be out much, much more than the fuel.

I usually don't fuel before parking for a period of time but as many know fueling before midnight was a must to make things work. Since I knew it would be after midnight when I woke I went ahead and got fuel but paid the price. Hard lesson learned. Not as bad as gold getting sucked outta the tank but time consuming.

Gotta fuel to get free shower. Or to match your logbook if you're going to be leaving "early".
