    So heres my question,

    Im getting mixed stories about previous medical conditions effecting my hire ability. Appx 4yrs ago I blew out my back requiring surgury (L5-S1 went multi fragment). I have healed up well with only one relapse requiring a cortizone injection appx 2yrs ago but no actual cutting. I have been training and know that I can pass any prehire physical (including the watkins shepard test - which seems the hardest or most demanding). I have been reading lately though of people getting scrubed out due to previous back problems even though no current condition exists and theyve already passed the DOT and prehire company physical tests.

    Any input would be appreciated - obviously I don't want to spend the money for school only to find out that im not hireable.

    You don't have issues with just trucking, concerning your back injury. You have issues with ANY industry.

    Previous back injuries are the leading cause of "NOT" being hired for any job. Sorry, but that's just the way it is. Especially when that job may require you to lift more than 1 lb.

    Hidden past injuries, are the leading cause of Workmens Comp claims with regard to back injuries sustained on the current job.

    How to avoid the issue. Get a Doctor to sign off on a release, stating you are good to go. And are capable of the work. This allows the "company" to go after someone else, in the event of an injury that can be tied to your previous injury. Sucks I know, but that's the way insurance companies think now days.

    Just a thought, MY doctor has flatly refused to sign off on any of my past medical conditions, for a period of more than 7 years. Those conditions arose away from work, and are not part of any claim made through my past employers insurance policy or workmans comp. Therefore they remain private. And only exposed when I choose to disclose them.

    I have had other doctors pronounce me "fit to work", some not being aware of my past medical, while others were. But the original treating Doctor flatly refuses to stick his neck on the line.

    You can choose to "hide" the injury. If that's possible. But if you get injured on the job, they may welll find it, if it's part of a work related injury of the past. And then choose to refuse payment of benefits.

    my injury was not work related and i never filed a WC claim - so unless they were to subpoena my medical history they'd never know
