does anyone know, do you have to use the load board or can you work with a specific group of agents directly? im signing on with LS and pull a step deck, i like to stick with machinery and OD loads

You are not required to use Landstar's loadboards. However, they are a good resource and can help you get started. If you already have some contacts there is no reason you can't work with them and leave the boards alone. Landstar could care less as long as you are making money for them. Unless you do have some contacts you will probably want to post your truck when you know the area where you are going.dogcatcher Thanks this. -

It's open to all approved carriers. It's all flats and step decks. They'll load rolling conestogas too. Weight scale is 45-48k.

They asked for my driver info about 3 weeks ago, and said they were still working on my employment info, and their handling of it turned me off on the company entirely. I'm waiting to see how long it takes them to finish so I can talk to the higher ups in charge of BCO retention, as LSAgentOZR suggested. They seem like a great company once you get in, so I'm hoping to help them improve in the first impression department. -
I have just finished one year as an LS BCO, (Business Capacity Operator), there is more to like then dislike:
1. Conflicting information from orientation, I.e, they don't use the trailer gps (Sky Bitz) to confirm log entries. Yes they do. I have received violation notices base on them.
2. Due to the new CSA2010 standards leasing on to LS is very difficult and time consuming.
3. There are always petty things that are irksome but nothing to quit over.
Likes:
1.Orientations are very informative and helpful for the first time O/O and place anthe novice in the drivers seat of his or her business from the start and give good follow up support.
2. Because Landstar is so hard to lease on to BCO's are not targeted like other carriers by DOT.
3. Financail help is available after 6 months with new tire purchases (and no interest payments) and if you want after one year I have heard they will finance a trailer.
4. There are other pluses that out way any negatives.

Hey guys, I'm a former LS BCO and I ran across something the other day that just got me curious.
I needed to contact LS about something so I went to the website to get the phone number and while I was looking around I saw the place where you can log in to your account. That got me to wondering if my old login information still worked so I tried it and it did.
After clicking around there for a bit I ended up on the page where you can fill out an application and noticed that it said, "We see that you have completed a form before." I thought that it must be referring to my original application from over 5 years ago, but after looking at it closer I noticed that the entry was less than a year old and that it was entered through the company "NFI / NFI Interactive Logistics LLC."
I did apply for a seasonal job with NFI last year because I needed a local job for a while last summer, but it just struck me as a little odd that the exact application that I filled out for NFI was active in the LS system.
So, the question is, does anyone know what the relationship is between these two companies?
