I'm the only guy at my branch of Solar Transport that hauls 6 loads a night and sometimes 7 but other guys make the same money as me.

I've been driving for 11 years, just got into fuel a few months ago and I'm already the highest production driver at our district out of about 60 guys.

It's really not hard work, but I came from foodservice for the last year so I'm a go getter.

Walked in from working at Sygma, learned how to haul fuel in 3 weeks, been making 1200+ a week since.

If anyone has any questions or would like some advice on how to speed themselves up or anything else, send me a message and I'll explain what I do.

Is the Pilot & Love`s pay scale the same as most other companies?

Pilot is the bottom of the barrel pay wise. Around here Loves drivers make $15k+ better

This has been a great thread. I haul for Gemini which is Love's and I average 1200 - 1400 a week. In the busier summer months I make 1400 to 1600 a week. We are paid by load and in my area, we service 4 different Love's stores. Sometimes a fifth one. Right now some weeks are better than others but I do see it getting busier at the pumps now with spring rolling in. I love hauling fuel and have really enjoyed working for Gemini. The benefits have been great for my family as well.

In my experience there's three types of fuel haulers. The common carrier the will haul anybody's product, dedicated haulers that pull for only one company, and the majors that drill-refine-haul-and sell their own product. Those companies are listed in order of pay. The common carrier is the lowest and should be anywhere from $17 to $20. The dedicated carrier is anywhere from $20 to $22, and the major is anywhere from $25 to $30. Of course those are all in hour pay and can differ depending on your area. The lower the pay most likely the lower the cost of living is.

Sometimes it's tricky to tell what company is hauling whose fuel. Just look on the cab doors and that will tell you what company it is. Don't let anyone tell you all the gasoline is the same. The additive is what brands the gasoline. However, with today's special blends gasoline is almost the same for the area but the company's do mess with it just enough so they can call it there's. Every station that sells gasoline under a company name is selling their product. When the truck loads at the tank farm the gasoline is injected with that company's registered additive at the rack.

Pay matters but pay and benefits matters the most. Be sure to check out the benefits especially the medical and dental. I'd say $17 an hour to start with an 80-20 med&den. would be fair.

Its true about gasoline not all being the same. You run cheap gas for a long time and your fuel injectors WILL get fouled up. Chevron, Shell and 76 are the best. If you use cheap gas run some
Techron down the tank once in a while. Trust me, I work on cars and I have never had ANY fuel injector issues in over 25 years, since I use Chevron/Texaco fuels most of the time.

Chevron sold off their entire fleet. It shows a fast gain but it will, just like always, show a loss in the long run. There's many reasons for a company truck from resale of the equipment to advertisement. There's less spills and incidents when you have the authority for discipline. Don't get me wrong here there's plenty of great drivers out there hauling for dedicated carriers but in my opinion they should be in uniform for a major putting those many years of safe driving and getting paid very well for that achievement. It's not their fault or even the company they work for. It the big boys trying to squeeze every dime they can. And what the really bad part is it all comes from book smart people that wouldn't know a compartment from a hole in the ground.♠

I for one was #### glad when Chevron gave all their drivers the boot. A more worthless bunch of loudmouthed, backstabbing arse-holes would be hard to find. They really were a pack of creeps. I should know, as I had to pull out of a Chevron terminal 95 percent of the time. I haven't seen any downgrade in the quality of the fuel since they got their cans kicked. Most of the tanker drivers who haul Chevron now are A-OK in my book.

Very true. I hauled out of three pipeline terminals with Chevron drivers and they were, almost without exception, the most professional, courteous, and helpful bunch of poeple I ever worked with. We were a common carrier hauling for all the majors. Chevron drivers would always give us the latest information on their bulk plants and stations.
Now, that being said, Chevron refinery office transportation people, especially Chevron Richmond and Chevron El Segundo, were the biggest bunch of jerks I ever had the displeasure to deal with. Luckily, we didn't deal with them very often.
