I used to do that on pipe loads. Didn't DOT securement standards change and say you couldn't anymore since it degrades the strength of the strap, which is BS IMO?

 

Old picture of delivering truck bodies in Chicago. I wasn't allowed to strap it down and had to get special permission from the shipper if I did. They banded the bodies straight to the deck.

 

I didnt see anything on this, not saying that it might not be true just saying I didnt see it.

I still use the3 twists and havent been stopped for it so I hope its still all good as there are several loads (drywall, those quads, electrical insulators with wood crate) that need that done on. I would say BIG BS also if they changed it.

 

I had twists in them, the problem is you cannot tighten down the straps because the crates collapse in. They didn't shift or move at all, but I still don't care for not having them tight. But sometimes it's those loads you just have to take out of a bad freight area.

 

Some edge protectors, or 2x4's under the straps would help.

It is more work though.

 

I hate those loads where you cant crank down on the straps. I want those things so they cant move at all.

 

I know, but the load was 13'4" and I had no way to get them up there. I asked the Mexican that loaded me to raise me up on his forklift and he said no and drove away. So I just did what I could.
