Landstar question for the heavy haul side:

Owner operator leased on and all equipment is provided by the O/O, tractor and DGN trailer.

Who pays for permits, escorts and such? Is the O/O responsible to pull permits or does Landstar pull them?

    Thanks in advance!

The O/O handles the permits and escorts and it gets paid for by Landstar I believe. Fortycal, can you confirm this?

Yes the operator is responsible for getting permits and arranging escorts. As far as payment goes, if you use the in-house Comdata permit people, it gets taken out of or charged to the load automatically. I've only used Comdata and corporate (Howard Booth for blanket permit) for permits.

Thanks for responding with the information, I am not sure if I want to go back to heavy haul or go flatbed again.

I know most of the good paying loads I had were flat and supplemented with the lowboy hauls.

Now call me crazy, but have been looking at something like this for a flat setup. Not sure about the bar, beams and plate with this but coils and other flat freight would work.

That would depend if they top load you too.

I have had overheads set coils on my flats.

And I personally would consider a step deck with ramps before going back to flat.

You know that rolls completely forward or back right? Wanna buy an.'08 Fontaine 48 step with 20k ramps? I'll give you a good deal.
