I'm a bit nervous, and, excited about all this.

It's a bit nerve-wracking to give two weeks notice at a job and not have another job "officially" lined up (I'm supposed to go with PAM, but, I hear that can change... so, who knows!). I think, though, I'll breath a sigh of relief on Friday afternoon after my last official Elementary route is finished. :biggrin_2559: (I drive a school bus right now... So, I have a CDL B. Small children drive me insane. :biggrin_25526: High School aged kids are A LOT easier.)

My Co-workers think I'm either crazy for doing this, or they're wanting to do it themselves when the school year is over. I found out today that another driver's best friend will be there, too. Small world!

My plan is to get this part (school) over with before the 100 degree days start. lol Last year was miserable... I did summer school in a bus without air.

I wonder if there will be other women there with me...

    Anyone else starting training soon?

I'm starting training next week. I'm coming from an office job with a huge need to get out from behind a desk. Of course it helps that my husband has been driving OTR for years. He is going to be my trainer.

If you can drive a busload of loud little turds around, I think you will be fine. Most women I've talked to say they wish they could do what we are doing and they are glad to see that there are more women willing to do the job.

I'm nervous and excited. I agree, giving notice (tomorrow for me) is a little scary, but it also motivates me... I have no option to fail at trucking! I have to make it work!

I'm sure there will be other women, but if not, just be sure to represent us girls well... have some class and show the guys that we CAN drive as well if not better than they can!

It is a bit nerve racking taking the leap! No matter what hang in there though! Its going to take a good three months before you are comfortable out there in your day to day happenings. So give it at least that long before making any decisions of quitting.

School, orientation and training can be a real blast though! Its a lot of fun, and goes by quickly. You will feel a bit nerved when you get issued your truck and are out on your first run after training. Also the lifestyle and directions are going to be your biggest hurdle.

Good luck! Takes some big huevos to do what you are doing!

Hey! Well, I'm sitting here at the hotel in Benbrook right now.

Things are going well for me. I only had one test (combination) to take at the DPS since I already had a CDL B, and, I passed that yesterday morning. Most of the rest of the day was waiting for the people who rode with me to get their tests finished. we made it back to the classroom around 3:00pm. Everyone else that passed went to the driving course.

I ended up having to call PAM. My sleep doctor was wrong. PAM needed 2 months of my CPAP data not one month. Ugh... I think I would have been royally screwed if I wasn't from DFW and my sleep doc didn't happen to be 5 miles from the office. (I can't imagine not having a car and searching for a place to read the CPAP's card!)

I got the med stuff done this morning and went back to the driving range right when everyone else was going to lunch. lol

After lunch us newbies practiced straight line backing in two trucks they have just for that. I think I did pretty good. There were a few guys there you can tell had lots of experience with trailers/uhauls of some sort.

There are a couple of other ladies in my group. They had passed their tests yesterday also and were there today. There were two others in class. I don't know what happened to one, and the other decided this just wasn't for her. She was my roommate. So, now, I have the room to myself for at least the rest of the week, I guess. I'm not complaining! lol

Everyone that I've met seems pretty nice and helpful.

Oh, I forgot. This morning before I had to go get my CPAP papers I stayed and watched a video over pre-trip inspection. They told us that the state of Texas is going to start requiring testers to the full 100 (and something... I forgot the exact number) point inspection with the air breaks test. It is supposed to start in May, but, they weren't sure if it would be delayed or not or if my class will have to do it... probably, though. They are going to get us prepared to do it.
