I've been sitting silently on the sideline reading about all the companies and doing my research and I've decided to go to C1 through PAM. I will be driving team with my husband. He has been driving for over 25 years but most of it has been Regional. Every company I spoke with wanted him to go out with a trainer. Even though we are from Ohio and he has experienced driving in snow, mountains, and city driving the fact that he hasn't covered more than 15 states was a setback for us. Our original plan was for him to get hired then train me. But they all said it would take several months for him to become a trainer. With PAM he is good as long as he has crossed state lines. He won't officially be my trainer, but after I do my 2 weeks with a trainer, I will be with him. I am sooo looking forward to this like you wouldn't believe. The only thing that has me concerned is that a lot of posts on this forum has mentioned not getting paid as much as the recruiter's say you will. My husband will be leaving a job that pays almost 70 g's a year. We are willing to take the cut in his pay with the hopes of the combined pay being closer to the 100 g range in a year or two as a hardworking team that doesn't mind putting in the work. Does this sound reasonable and can anyone tell me which companies would be good for what we want?

Good luck to you and your husband. Drive safe, and watch out for the Armadillos in Texas.

Pretty awesome plan! I can't say for sure about other companies, but I think there are some out there that will help you get close to or achieve your goal. Especially with experience.

As for PAM, I can say that there are miles available but you have to work your dm for them, and if he/she won't give them find a new one who will. It's very possible to get close to what the recruiter promised. I'm running team with a buddy and am working for our 3rd dm, but we're finally getting some decent mileage. Good luck to ya'll!

Yes, I currently drive for PAM. People can say what they want, no company is perfect, and neither is PAM by any means. However, they got me a cdl and a job so I'm content to finish out my 1st year here. It will be what you make of it. There are drivers who whine and complain about the company, and yes there will be issues but keep a positive attitude and run hard and your dm's will take care of you.

Good to hear. I have read some negative posts followed by some similar to yours and had already decided that we would have to make the best of it for at least that first year. But I'm glad to hear firsthand from someone who is currently driving for them. Thanks a lot and stay safe!

How is your first week going?

I'm in the middle of my second week here in Texas. Most of us (my class is pretty large) are now out on the road training (finally... I was getting kind of tired of only straight line backing and pre-tripping over and over again). A few have already taken their DPS (DMV in other states) driving tests and passed (there are people who already have experience). It took me a bit to get used to double clutching. lol I think I did pretty well today.

I start on 5/7. I am so excited! Sounds like you're doing ok, keep up the good work. Has anyone in your class fallen off?

We started out with around 30 people, and, now we're at 16 or 17. The people that dropped out either didn't want to do it, had problems with the physical or they got called to the office and never came back (drug test? I don't know).

The new class that started Monday is really small. I don't think they had as many people on the first day as we have right now. Looks like they have less than 10 now.
