Not everybody's got the luxury of $10,000+ worth of tools laying around or somewhere convienent to do a clutch install. Even if I did I'd still probably pay someone else to do it. I'd rather be doing something besides wrenching on the truck a whole weekend. I'll spend a half a day if I have to, fixing misc odds and ends small stuff..

I'm pretty sure you can't buy a clutch for $600 in parts. Did you see him put a new clutch in?

cxllutch kit alone is $700. $250 to replace my burnt out compressor,. another $400 at least for a transmission jack., shop rental fee since i don't have a driveway,. who knows how much in tools that i don't have already.

much cheaper to have a shop do it. then for me to buy the nexcessary equipment. $1100 was the bill.

didn't have a pedal to use. but i was able to still drive it back from los angeles,. all freeway and no towns to worry about stopping. and i was also empty.

Meh, $100 for a floor jack from Sears, a sheet of 3/4 plywood, a socket / wrench set, prybar, hammer and a 24 pack for you and your helper. :)

An Eaton fuller anything isn't a 700r4. That's a recipe for serious injury. Just rent a tranny jack and not spend 30,000 at the hospital or worse. Back in the glory days of Minitruckin, a guy down the street was lowering the rear axle of his S10. He was too laay to get stands out, jack failed and he went to the hospital with a ubolt through his arm.

1452 is not too bad a price from a dealer/ shop. Had one done on the road ten years ago for 1500.I usually figure on a grand if I use a local shade tree parts swapper. Going rate is 350 bucks for labor,600 for re-man button clutch, pilot bearing, etc. at local parts house, turn fly wheel is 35 $ at machine shop.
