Do some deadlifts - it is kind of a contradiction but once you work past the initial increased pain when you stop you should feel beter...

Kind of like pain management philosophy - make something hurt worse somewhere else, and the initial pain in the original area should subside...

Unless you get radiating pain going down one, or both legs you shouldn't be having any major issues. It may feel like burning, pins & needles(like your leg has gone to sleep) or an electric shock sensation, or even a combination of these feelings. If this is the case you might want to check with a Dr. a.s.a.p. as it could be either a bulged disc, or worse, a herniated disc. With the later you may experience agonizing pain where it is impossible to maintain certain positions.

Over the years I've blown out 5 discs in my back. If you are not experiencing some of the problems listed above, you should start to feel better within a couple of days to a couple of weeks. I'm no PhD of course so take this as the 2 cents it's worth.

BC Powder arthritis strength, the green package. This is aspirin rather than the kidney and liver killing acetaminophine.

Open it, cup your tongue, dump it just behind the taste buds (Tip), wash down with a healthy drink of Gatorade.

That will get rid of the pain while you look for the source.

What does the BC stand for and where can you get the stuff? Does WallyWorld carry their generic version?

    Thanks.

This^^^ If you spent a day on a rough road, your back was probably tensed up without you realizing it. Probably muscle spasms. Happens to me if I don't stretch and twist at least once an hour or so. I do fairly regular strength training as well. The first part of me that gets uncomfortable are the muscles along my spine just below the shoulder blades.

Not sure what it stands for??
    Headache powders.
Throw back to the old days.
Should be available everywhere, may be a regional thing..
Only a few bucks for a pack of six, never looked for a generic alternative.

    http://www.bcpowder.com/

Two kinds, BC and Goodys... BC works best in my opinion, the green pack (arthritis strength)
does the trick for me anyway.

Have to take it the way I described..can be fun watching people take it the first time.
Never inhale between dumping it and washing it down :D

    Backaches
    What causes backache?
Lower back pain injuries are associated with lifting, twisting, bending, reaching, pulling and pushing actions. Those most at risk include truck drivers, warehouse personnel, construction workers, heavy manufacturing workers and nurses.
Lower back pain disorders are divided into two major diagnostic categories, and many times overlap:
Disorders involving irritation of peripheral nerves within, or as they meet the spinal canal. These tend to cause chronic pain.
Disorders involving soft tissue connecting segments together. These tend to cause acute pain and heal quickly.
    How to treat backaches.
To treat minor back pain, Rest! Find a comfortable position and stay there. Apply ice for 10-15 minutes every hour. Take a mild, over-the-counter anti-inflammatory such as aspirin in BC Original Formula as soon as you can. For chronic back pain consult your doctor for treatment.

From the site I gave the link above.
    Hope it helps you.

Quote from a pedal biker friend of mind, "got a bad back, you probably have weak abs" If you do not then disregard and read further

Yep, I have "twanged" my back just coughing. It is usually from working the muscles all day. Then they cool down, like on the 45 minute ride home from my old job, sitting in one position. Then any abrupt movement can tweak the muscle. For me it was/is lower back just to the right or left of the spine.

Change your seat position often. Low so your knees are up, then high. Sit up straight, don't slouch curving your back. Work the back of the seat bladders to where you like them. My freightliner has three, lower, middle and upper back.

Ding ding two great tips there. The 3 inch mattress is crap and a good egg crate topper can cost nearly a hundred dollars!

I use an air mattress. $20-40 depending on the style you like and the time of year... (camping season). I can vary the pressure just like my sleepnumber bed at home.

The second ding is for walking. Walking works the legs and all the way up into the back. I am lucky enough to be home every night. I do a mile on the treadmill then sit with an icepack on my lower back for about 20 minutes. Just like they put on a quarterbacks arm/shoulder when he is done with the game.

An ice pack might be hard to come by on the road. An improvised version is a ziploc bag with a small folded towel inside. Inside the towel you put some ice. Then wet the towel. It is very flexible and lasts a long time. You could get the ice at a soda counter.

As far as meds, for me, ibuprofen or aleve work somewhat. But I also have a scrip for Diazepam. Street name is Valium. But that is only for when I am home, using on the road is the same as drunk driving. But it really loosens up my back when it gets real tight.
