Looking for a great trucking Job

What's the point of cheating on logs if your with a company that keeps you moving?

 

A friend who went to trucking school with me went with a company that used paper logs and he figured he could drive beyond his limit but his dispatcher would call and tell him to stop driving. Just do things the right way and good things will happen. The funny thing is just the other day another trucker was interested in my company and asked how much I made on average and when I told him he then asked if I was running legal and I said yes as he couldn't believe my pay since I keep my door shut.

 

Most likely aren't going to be doing any of those wishes with the companies you have listed!

I also wouldn't put "cheating on your logs" as one of your requirements in choosing a company. Chances are you will begging for a company that doesn't allow this! Cheat on your log and get caught is a good career ender! Cheating on your log and get in an accident and kill someone and you will be locked up for life for manslaughter! Happens more than you think!

I would re-think your priorities in being a professional driver!

 

Well, I suppose this person will take care of himself. This is an open forum--one of the largest in the trucking industry. I am sure there are DOT agents monitoring this forum and have the computer techies to figure out who would ask these kinds of questions.

After all, this is the trucking equivalent of going into an educational forum and asking how to setup a meth lab in a school furnace room...

If this really is a joke, then it really is a stupid one. When I went to orientation, my trainers had read my posts on this forum before I got to orientation. You have to assume any future company looking at you will look at sources like this.

The most you are going to be able to work, legally under the current HOS rules, is about 61 hours per week (on average with no home time). Figuring in pre-trip inspections, fueling, etc, you are going to average something like 45 MPH. If running long trips out West and your truck is not governed, you may be able to push that higher. If you can get the average up to 60 MPH, you are looking at something like 3600 miles per week--assuming the company can keep you that busy (i.e. no 18 hours waiting at the loading dock like happened to my friend last week). The new HOS rules that go into effect next summer will put a hard limit on the number of hours that can be worked per week by limiting the 34 hour reset to once per 168 hours--that means you will be limited to 70 hours maximum per week (lines 3 and 4).

HUH? i did not know that. not sure if i understand this correctly. You mind explaining a little more. I dont do otr as i'm local and go by some different rules/regs but i like to keep in the know of whats going on out there. From what i understand is that you'd have to work 2wks nd 2 days before was eligible for a 34? What about drivers that are home on w/e's? how does it affect them?
