No but I am embarrassed by other truck drivers...

That is one of the reasons I love my shuttle run position. We all wear nice clothes, are friendly with the shipper and receiver. In return they are actually friendly with us!!! (has nothing to do with the clothes thing...)

Not like the attitudes of most clerks towards drivers when OTR. They have to deal with some real jerks and I don't blame them for becoming surly.

I'm not as proud as I once was. When I was 16 working part time I remember putting some of the money aside. I told my parents that I was going to buy a truck.

Well that was a long time ago. My second new truck is in the driveway.
Kept the first one 15 years. I take care of my truck always clean and well maintained.

Seen a lot of changes deregulation ,mega carriers and factories closing everywhere . Rates have not gone up in forever if you back out the fsc. Insurance and fuel are a joke. All this and more happened on my watch.

Got to go outside and wash my truck it makes me feel better! I guess I'm proud.

I think the OP would be more EMBARASSED if unable to make a living , and had to rely on others for financial support.

    I'll vouch for that.

My son just got his first date in almost a year.

Its also his first paycheck. In a year.

Life sucks when you're in school and broke. ;)

Ummm..No they don't. I know and I am from "here" (Southern CA.). My ex wife was an attorney and my current wife is in senior management for the US Bureau of Prisons. Both have degrees (as do I) and are "professionals" who do NOT look down on me because of my job. The only problem you have is, you buy into the public's perception of this business and the people you are meeting are a bit lacking in character. It's not "hipster" (whatever that is)..It's a job. All honest work is nothing to be ashamed of.

Well, if you're worried about what others think or being hip you have a lot to learn. I don't care what a person does for a living, if they put their heart into it and do their best they will be proud of what they do.

If you can't take pride in your 'job' you're looking for it in the wrong place.

When that cute little cheerleader puts her nose up when you tell her what you do you need to tell her why she's wrong. Can't do that if you don't take pride in it yourself though.

If you can't take pride in your 'job' you're looking for it in the wrong place. True but a few could take a bit more PRIDE in their overall appearance and not embarass the rest of the people in the trucking field.

Duck, take it this way, basically your life is going to go on with or without women. The hot ones I've dated, like your model date the other night, have always been severely judgemental. They are only looking for $ and a situation.

Part of being a man is doing whatever the f$$$ you want, with or without a woman. That involves doing WHATEVER it takes to make money, your model gf probably has been pampered all her life to the point that some people in this world don't get bailouts and we don't have a rich Daddy buying us a new BMW every year.

If I was you, I would drive, save your money up, see the country, get your goals established and then revisit career ambitions after a while. Another fantastic aspect of this job is that you get exposed to how things work, and where jobs are. Right now I am across the street from my terminal checking out the BMW plant and it's shown me a new job market where jobs are plenty here.

Don't fall into the trap of thinking that truck drivers are losers, we are the glue that holds this country together. This country would not run without us.

Oh, and dump that B$tch model, there are better women trust me
