Just love your attitude Rocks! We feel the same way. Ron & I have been at this now for 8 months and we look forward to every day. Having this outlook on life (water rolling off your back) keeps us smiling every day.
I don't miss being couped up in that office setting one little bit.
I would love to hear about your hitchhiking days in Brazil with trucking.
That sounds like it would be quite interesting.

Are we twins? :biggrin_2559: This is almost exactly where I am at right now! Since my kiddeos are teens now, and gaining their own independence, they don't need as much of my immediate, proximal presence (they live with their mother) and it is my plan to go out on the road, and bust *ss as much as possible for the first few years as a co. driver, while saving to get my own rig to become an O/O.

I have no car to worry about, and dumping this crappy, no-lease, cash-rent only sleeping room will not be a problem. I already have a storage facility, so even if I doubled the size of it (and the payment) I'd still be saving money. My bro has already allowed that I can use his home as a mailing address (I'll throw him a few bucks a month to forward my mail to me) and when I do take actual home time to see my kids, I'll just rent a car and a couple motel rooms and the ex can be ######!

Mostly though, as someone else alluded to, I'll take "home time" out on the road, since seeing some of this country is a big part of my desire to get into trucking, but I don't want to see this country only from a truck stop--I'd like to "visit" the places I'm at, to explore. (I never lost that child-like sense of play or adventure)

I'm almost set on my WIA funding and, my biggest urgency to get going is that I want to have at least a few months in the seat, before winter hits.

Sounds like an excellent plan Moe!!!

That is pretty much exactly what my wife and I did! We would get a hotel/motel, rented a car if we needed to etc... I would actually go on 3 week surf trips out of the country and my wife would stay with her parents for an extended visit. Gave us a good break away from each other after being stuck to each others backs for 4 months straight!

We drove for Central Ref and on occasion would park the truck at the terminal in Salt Lake, rent a car, and then go skiing for week! Used to go through Vegas a lot and also Palm Springs. Time permitting we would take a couple days and pamper ourselves in a nice hotel and hit the tables! Sky is the limit as to what you can do out there!

Do your company driving for a year or so and keep track of everything you do as if you were an owner operator. This way when you are ready to buy a truck you will know exactly how much money you can expect to make. Also while you are driving company absorb as much information as you can about becoming an owner op. There are a lot of owner op business guides and such on audio cd's and you can listen to them while chuggin down the road! Most truck stops have them. Another great way to succeed is to study the business aspect of it. Remember that it is owning your own business. Learn all you can about owning your business and being successful. This will help you put together a good solid business plan that you can show to potential lenders and such.

Good luck man, I'm sure you are going to have the adventure of a lifetime!

Chompi ,, Great Advice !! thank you ,,, I personally was not thinking about being a O/O but after reading some post here, that might be something to look at down the road ,, don't no if its for me though i think i just wanna make my cash off of someone ells headache lol .. but i will keep my eyes open i mean you never know it might be the right thing to do in a few years when the economy comes back .

But for right now i just want to drive and and drive and drive ,, and watch my direct deposit Grow ,,

I really do not have any Obligations to anyone or anything other then my self and i think that's the best part of why i am ready to be a trucker , also the fact that as long as i dont F--K up somewhere , i will always be able to drive a truck, so the thought of independence is a huge factor to me .

    chompi and Onetruckpony Thank this.

Hey I-80 like I said, while you are driving company keep track of what you do and you will know where you stand as if you owner operator. Its a lot of work and a lot more responsibility but if trucking ends up to be something you love then maybe this will be a good opportunity to make some good money out there.

You have a lot more freedom as an owner operator. Also to bring in extra income you could train or possibly pick up a good co-driver. It is more of a commitment and home time is much more rare but if its something you love to do then it maybe a good option for you down the road (no pun intended)!

Good luck man! If you have any questions feel free to ask.

If you falsify a logbook and get an accident seriously hurting or killing someone you could be looking at a life sentence!

Just falsifying your logs could result in hefty fines alone! Stay legal out there! Your license will be your bread and butter!
