I know that in most states if not all that if you are hauling a trailer with a load that is over 10,000 pounds you need a CDL. So if I were to haul a load that is 20,000 pounds on the trailer what would happen if I wouldnt have a CDL? Would DOT even bother me or not really worry about pulling me over and just focus on the big rigs? Thanks.

Depends on where you run, but you'll be required to stop at a scale if you have DOT#s on it, plus you'd better make sure you have the truck tags weighted right, plus you're over 26,000 so you WILL need a CDL and the DOT loves to stop Hot Shots and make sure they are legal.

    Have fun.

What are you pulling, who are you pulling it for, what states will you be in? Can the truck handle it? Do you know what your doing?
There are many things to consider here! PM me if you would like more answers. I will help if I can. Don't just do it find out like your attempting to now what you need to know.
Call the states that you'll be going through.
If your NOT pulling commercially you maybe alright but if you want a clear answer PM me

Even Dodge 4500 and 5500 have a GVWR of 26,000 lbs. With a load like that you may be over the tire weight capacity which is one thing DOT nails a lot of people on .
I have seen many duallies with trailers Out Of Service behind the scales . In some cases the load doesn't move until a qualified truck and/or driver is brought in to move it .

That poor guy can't qualify for a cdl so things might be tough for him. I sure hope he just drops the idea and doesn't lose everything or kill himself and/or others. Many people think the fines would be similar to what speeding tickets are and not what they really can be LIFE CHANGING!
