Lol when I went to school never drove a truck in my life befor I went there drove stick cars though and always floated them. Got in we went driving around first day I aced my shifting everyone else failed although instructor told me to double clutch and he had to teach me and if I was made to double clutch now I would be like a newb and messing stuff up lol. Did train somone in hopper once how to float after he was taught for years to double clutch he said wow this is easier lol. Had to keep reminding him though to keep his foot off the clutch.
Do you float gears or double clutch?

float gears (up and down) and double clutch
All depends on the truck and some sticky gears
(I got to quad clutch me old uncles truck , Ford L3000 piece of junk) -
Tried double clutching tonight just for fun...
Was no fun at all..back to floating for me -
So a word to the wise for you newbies. Not every truck is going to shift the same, not even 2 of the same truck. Some will shift easy, some will shift hard. As for double clutching vs floating, do what the truck and your skills and abilities will allow. The main thing is to shift smoothly and efficiently while doing no damage to the transmission or drive line. -
I double clutch when I'm in gear and using it to hold me back, ie, going down a hill.
But when you get to the bottom you can't float it out. You have to accelerate or double clutch. I double clutch in this situation.
Also, I don't think I grind any more floating then I do double clutching.
Speaking of grinding, I have the most trouble with 4th&5th on a 10spd when trying to get gear for a turn. -

When I was in training I was in a Freightliner with my Trainer and I was always worked up because I had a hard time shifting that truck.
Got in my '99 International and from day one was like we were made for each other. -
