Good on you Onetrack! In 1003 and 2004 I worked out of Kamloops for Omer Despins hauling forest fire retardant for Firetrol. One of the most rewarding trucking jobs I've ever been on. You got RESPECT from pilots, foreman, DOT guys etc etc. Og course, being exempt from HOS and Log Books made it easier to get the product to the plane and choppers when they needded it most.

 

Yeah a friend of mine who hauls helicopter fuel for SCAMP out of kamloops did that.. during that huge fire in lillooet a couple years back he ran as hard and fast as he could, no logs, not stops.. greenlight all the way.

EDM to the fire point to refuel, as many times as possible.

How are things going with your pipe construction, have you ramped up enough guys yet?

 

I also hauled to Lilloett, the chopper site was 1/2 ways up the mountain at the dump.


Lined up 7 so far. So we will be good. Also got a crane operator and a picker op for Ft. Mac.

I'm from Ft.McMurray, but currently live and work in Kelowna, BC, pushing freight. I've hit the ceiling at the company I'm with, and want more, much much more, so I'm scoping AB once again, along with the Peace Area. NO interest in going home to the Mac, 16 years up there is enough, 4 years in Edmonton, and 3 years in Calgary as well.

My ex lead hand just got on with Trican out of Red Deer and is pushing me come back, as he knows I've had it with delivering freight all day and just got an in law suite in Red Deer something like 2 blocks from work. Not sure about Trican, as they tried to hire me roughly 7-8 years ago while I was in Edmonton, but wanted me to relocate to Drayton Valley, which killed it for me at the time. My question to those of you at Trican right now, would my name be red flagged in the Trican system or no? I know this is a question more for a rep or a super, but I thought I'd still throw it out there.

I just got told that with my boss leaving that I'll be tapped to come in at 3AM to strip the trailer then go do deliveries all day, so yeah, I have 14-16 hour days coming my way once more and the pay is NOT enough for me to stay here. I can't stand frieght anymore, and driving here in the Okanagan during the summer is pure HELL what with all the tourists and road plugs (RVs and Boats).

As for my abstract, thanks to a lead foot and a tight time schedule ( I cover everything from Kelowna to the border, over to Nelson and across to Keremeos), I've gotten 2 speeding tickets within the past 2 years, on top of a No Insurance (totally forgot to renew). So I have 6 demerits plus some total BS BC Driving Penalty Point crap. I keep seeing CLEAN ABSTRACT on a lot of job postings, but how much do they really stick to that is what I am wondering. I know that AB forgives points every 2 years(or is it 3?), and my Class 1 originated in AB, but BC doesn't forgive demerits at all. If I move back to AB, what I'm wondering is if those demerits would vanish over the next couple years or would it be considered a provincial thing on a completely different abstract?

 

Answered my own question by calling the AB Gov't.
Demerits don't get transferred, but all convictions within the past 5 years do.

 

I believe convictions not demerit points affect a companies profile in the National Safety Code system. A dirty license basically makes you unemployable to a company enrolled in the National Safety Code system.

Alberta now had a Driver Profile based on his Commercial Licence. That's the one I pay attention too. I don't care about no insurance etc. I know that the trucks are covered.''It;s a Commercial Drivers Abstract.

Yep, I'm tired of freight, too. Dispatched on Victoria Day Sunday, deliver Monday in Toronto, only to be told our expedited team load got cancelled. Sitting in Brampton on a bright Tuesday morning, my cell rings...

Mark King of Trican Brandon, MB leaves voice mail. The conversation has kept me in an upbeat mood all week. Brandon is a new frac base. He would like me to run empty to SK, load frac sand, then dump it in Brandon. Said that hotels are provided. Gosh, I don't mind sleeping in the truck, especially if it isn't moving. He He!

And I kind of wonder if bobbyt had a hand in all of this. Sounds like he is doing something similar out of Lloydminster. I have an interview Monday. I can re-locate to Brandon, no biggie. I'm wondering about the Base Salary. Would it be about $5000 / month to start?

I imagine once inventory is high enough, I will assist with rig-in / rig-out and slinging some of this 2 inch iron.

 

Ladies and gentlmen,

I have read most of the 58 pages and must say I am impressed with your enthusiasim and willingness to help out others. I am newly retired at the age of 50 from my 30 year government career but have at least another 15 years of work remaining. My desire is to work in the oil & gas industry of BC, Alberta or Saskatchewan as a driver. I am seeking all the advice I can get from experienced people to avoid making as many mistakes as possible.
A quick thumbnail: 50 years, fit, willing to move anywhere but prefer camp life and long hours [100 hours+per week].
Iwill have my class 1 with all tickets by mid July.
From what I have read on this site mid to late summer is a good time for a greenhand to start applying in Alberta to get trained up for the coming winter.

Please advise where you think I should start looking for work. IE: Red Deer? Fort Mac? Type of job? Fluid haul? Hydro Vac? Water truck? Who will hire a guy with a very strong work record but totally green? What kind of money should I expect to gross monthly?
