My Experience as a Line Haul Driver

Yes Old Dominion is very good and I havent heard any negative things about them

 

I'm city and make over 70k at OD year after year. I like the company, the equipment and the pay... but city work ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh pays the bills.

 

Yea city work is ehhhh but it is paying the bills for me. I like being able to see friends and do stuff. Linehaul the money is good but kinda get a non-normal life.

 

linehaul or bust..Already moved two spots on the lineboard here, but I'm going back to school for the fall or spring so I guess I'm gonna have to hang it up for a bit.

My terminal is the only terminal where I see extraboard running as much as the bid guys. They make more money than me, as I dont care to work the outbound shift.

What you going to school for? Driving toyota forklifts 101? haha jk but good luck though. I might be getting called into the fire academy soon as I got a 99 on my test I took a while ago.

I do like line-haul but I got a lot of things to do. If I moved away I would do it as I wouldnt know anyone or what to do

 

Lol I'm an expert at driving forklifts already.Haha. But yea I want to go to flight school/and get another degree. The LTL game is changing by the minute. The writing is on the wall for those who are willing to see it

 

Are you looking to fly commercial? Is it possible to get into fly regional aircraft without going to a four year university?

 

Yea thats the goal, eventually getting enough hours to fly for fedex or ups. And yes you can fly regional without a degree, but Im sure thats first officer type deal. I'll check for sure but I think a degree is required to be a captain.

 

I believe you need a degree to become captain. One of my friends just graduated from a school in north dakota to be a pilot... Not sure what hes up to now. And I hear you, although I like driving trucks and LTL I want something better as well, but with this economy I just take what I have, and wait for something better to open up. I even thought about returning to school to finish my associates degree in electrical whatever it is...
