Can damaged 4 inch straps be repaired? If so, is it worth the cost? I have had to take some out os.service because of bad tears in the straps. What's worse is the straps are only a.couple of months old. This gets expensive as each strap is $12. Starting to lean more on chains when practical.

No, throw them away. Sounds like you need to pad or protect your straps better. I use old vinyl fence posts and rip them the long way on two corners, then cut them in to 18" lengths. They make very durable corner protectors.

I agree with grizzly, some straps are better than others. But most of my straps are quite a few years old. Doing flatbed work I even go as far as corner pieces on lumber. Straps that do get the slightest cut I chop up into more protection 18-20" long. Used for corner protection to cover sharp edges for tarping to throw between crossed chains

Cut the old straps up and use them as padding under the straps or even chains. You can also make V-boards from old straps. They do have bad runs of straps every now and again but I typically use Ancra and Kinedyne. I have also been looking at Ancra extreme.

I always cut them up and used them to make more v-boards. Always seemed to be leaving them on other loads. Gotta love company trailers and hook and drop loads.

Thanks for the replies. The two that were cut yesterday weren't on corners. But I like the idea of using the straps for corner protection.

you would be very hard pressed to find a shop that would repair them, since everyone was telling you alternative uses for the straps , i thought i would throw a few of mine out there. padding of course. if you have some cut near the hook, consider putting a stationary winch on the other side of the trailer and going hookless , weather stripping on my sliding garage doors . straps for my vango tarp arms , straps for my lift axles . just to name a couple . hope this gets you ideas going. johnny

all these co. and d.o.t. are interested in saftey. that is why they quit making the 12,000 lb. strap that you could tie a load with and went with these 5400 lb. straps that you need to pad if you are trowing them over a couch cushion.
