I mentioned since I (and most drivers at the time of the initializing of the policy) thought that the policy of not parking in T/S's o/n, more so than rest areas, was unrealistic! I always tried to park when in unlit areas with my trailer butted next to another trailer, or backed up against a fence, wall, etc. where opening the doors to gain cargo access would be difficult. Also the reqmt for hardened-steel, large pad locks doesnt do much as I've seen many trailers with their soft hasps cut (many by customers to open doors when a driver leaves their padlock on after dropping off) . The thieves out there these days are pros, following trucks out of hi-value manufacturer pickups and then tailing them until they can find an opportunity to steal the cargo and/or trailer.... they also know that truckers cant legally carry guns, and are especially confident when looking at large co. rigs w/newbies most likely onboard who will follow the no-gun rules! I never carried a gun, but a couple of hammers and pepper/mace spray (which is not legal in Canada).

i asked my fm and he said if your not within 25 miles of a terminal you may have to park at a t/s or rest area, the gun thing i believe on both sides of the law i think you should be able to carry to protect yourself, but i also know there drivers out there that are not totally not right in the head so i still agree with the law

The gun thing is a mixed bag. I have a hand gun along w/some hunting rifles, in my house but do not keep it loaded or near ammunition. Just as a last resort.

Can see the point in truckers not carrying guns since they are subjected to much harassment due to their slow-moving inertia, size, and having to take their 'right of way' which offends many 4-wheelers. Just driving in L.A. and staying in the middle/right lanes, I have had several 'women in Lexus SUV's, etc. pass me and give me the finger during heavy traffic....many L.A-ites dont think trucks shud every be in anything but the right lane at all times!

And the stress level of long driving days, heavy traffic in big cities, being under the gun to deliver on-time freight, and the rudeness & stupidity of 4-wheelers can push even a 'sane' driver to their limit...ergo, better not carry a gun on board, esp within easy reach!

If thieves just want cargo, trailer, or even tractor/whole rig---let them have it...not worth losing a life or killing someone over 'just' freight...altho it seems to be in 'vogue' these days with many criminals to 'kill all witnesses' no matter the amount of theft...

So let's see.....Made it to Mountain Top, PA from Indy on Saturday. Spent the night at the Petro just north of there. Sunday morning went up to Syracuse yard and picked up a load going to Grand Rapids, MI. Made it to Ottawa Lake, MI (exit 5 on US23 in MI). Delivered in Grand Rapids this morning. Picked up another load in Grand Rapids going to Indy. Dropped that on the Indy yard. Picked up a load going to Jackson, MI for Tuesday morning. After that, off to Perrysburg, OH to pick up a load that delivers Wednesday in York, PA. Yahooooooo, back to PA, I can hardly wait. Yep, that's sarcasm folks. By the way, spending the night at the Love's in Marion, IN tonight. Planning on being home by Thursday or Friday for some rest and fun.

Pilot Breezewood, PA. Off to deliver in York, PA in the morning, then go pick up somewhere else in York then off to Manteno, IL. That will get me to my mileage goal for bonus. After IL, should be headed toward home in MI.
