So any log for a particular day could be "corrected" and replaced with a version that would be "legal"

Why not forgo your carbon copy and just fill out your white sheet during your day and make yourself legal for your next day hand writing it on your yellow copy?
I have heard of drivers doing it that way and it being less hassle than dealing with staples and what-not...though I dont endorse the falsification of log books in any way.... -
loose leaf is like running two or more books, just run legal, till you run out of hrs back it up 10 hrs run again.and by the way in 70s you couldn't get loose leaf, then they let us have them....they (gov't)new what they were doing
x#1 Thanks this. -
My last company ran all loose leaf.

E-Logs aren't really a problem if you're only getting 2,000 miles a week, nor is it much of a problem if you're getting 1,000 mile loads that you have 2 days to deliver.
What sucks is the regional stuff that I did, where I would mostly get runs that were 250-600 miles, and they would all be due the next day - so it was typical where I'd be spending 6-8 hours out of my day at customers waiting to be loaded and unloaded. That crap don't work with E-Logs, I would refuse it.
Also, all these big companies going to E-Logs - there is another reason why they're doing it - because most of their noob drivers that come out of school are stupid enough to where working a paper log becomes a real difficulty - and pair that with the autoshifts, they got all these drivers who 1) Can't shift and 2) Can't log - so if they quit, where are they gonna go? No where, that's where - they will all be still stuck working for them with no way out.
And that's just the way I want it, wait til those companies end up falling apart, due to bad customer service, bad drivers, having to sit at customers to sleep because they can't move,
I'm waiting for the day when Werner and Swift and Knight and all them crap houses go under like they should - and that's when I will come in and take their lucrative business away for myself and run it the way it should be ran.
I hope they all go under.Raiderfanatic and poppapump1332 Thank this. -
Elogs are for drivers that don't want to work and can't figure out how to ran a paper log and need their hand held

All I ever ran was paper until May and now I'm on elogs. It does changer you're driving habits a bit, well in my case a lot since I used to run loose leaf and ran pretty much how I wanted. There are some good things about elogs, but at the same time there has been times I wanted to throw the dang thing out the window. I'm still getting used to them, but I guess within the next 2 years or so we all will.

Ran 4 years on paper. Have had e logs for 4 months. We get 2 miles under 24 mph before it kicks us unto the drive line. Logs to the minute so I don't loose minutes fueling, only log the 5 to 7 minutes it takes.
Once the 14 hour clock is started, delays, traffic, all can become stressors, as the minutes count down.
Elogs are about control and not safety.
And I have had loads given to another truck, due to delays, and no way to get to the pickup. 1 minute over and the violation is logged.Raiderfanatic, x#1 and RBPC Thank this. -
you can fool some of the people some of the time.
but you can't fool all the people all the time.
and as for sleeping at a shipper/receiver. i'll take a toilet, food, and a shower any day over sleeping somewhere that has nothing.
i tired that elog thing. and yep, i made LOTSA MONEY. 2500 miles for the week and tired half way through my shifts. #### near flipped the truck over on the off ramp.x#1, RBPC and Raiderfanatic Thank this. -
arizona seemed to enjoy counting pages and using a calculator if my memory serves me well.
seemed to work way back when for me and whomever i was driving for as i turned weekly ga to ca and back trips hauling carpet/some yarn west and produce east,as a solo driver.of coarse that was w/8-11 picks of produce, sometimes more and RARELY a single pick of lettuce or whatever.makes me feel old to type about it as this was during mid/late 80's to early 90's.Last edited: Jul 7, 2012
