Ear plugs are cheap, man! I've been wearing them since my one stack Mack with the window in the back days.

You can get these new custom add-ons attached to your long nose trucks so you don't look so much like a 'square'.

This is the same conversation that happened in 1970...

"I wouldnt drive a truck with a hood, you cant see anything"... "I'll keep driving cabovers till I retire"...

    Funny how things never change.

Yup 20 years in a Mack R model, not counting all the Stones and Dead shows. You would be deaf too!

I don't have a dog in this fight since I'm a company driver and not an owner. Although these threads pop up every other week I'll chime in.

You can say hoods are going away for sure, but its just hearsay. Aero vs hood is like ford vs Chevy. Its a never ending battle. Both are great in their own ways.

Hoods: look great, tons of custom parts and chrome accessories made for hood trucks that might be harder to find for an Aero truck. Stacks are beside the cab so you get the exhaust note a lot more while driving.

Aero: gets good MPG if its got a van or reefer behind it, open deck and it begins to decline.

It will always be personal choice. Some will buy hoods for the looks and resale value. Others will buy Aero trucks for fuel economy and wanting to make top dollar out of their fuel mileage.

For my choice will always be a hood. Main reason, to me, that is what a true truck is supposed to look like. A long hood with a high cab and high horse engine roaring underneath.

In my personal preference, if it means the difference between $300/week in fuel WORST CASE SCENARIO, between driving a hood or an Aero truck, I'll spend the extra on the hood or "antique" as they've been called.
I drive an Aero truck as a company driver, a prostar, and progressive shifting, not lugging the engine, and driving on flat land the best I've seen has been high 6's. When a longnose Pete n14 cummins got higher MPG than me, that says something. Mainly that its the driver, not the equipment.

As for what kind of truck, I'm mute to most. I will say I cannot stand a Volvo, but that's just my opinion.

What it has and always will boil down to is people are going to buy what they want. They will pay extra to own a certain truck than to pay less for a different kind. As one person stated in another thread, "the added cost of running a hood is like a luxury tax, you pay extra to have the luxury of that vehicle"

I couldnt agree more!!! especially the part about long hood being how its supposed to look. As i was growing up (born 1995) most trucks i saw were hoods. there were some aaeros, but i never cared for the looks of them. Although i do not drive trucks yet, i definitely want to and will once i turn 18 and get my CDL (well if i can get an intrastate driving job), but once i own my own truck - after a year or two OTR once i turn 21, so hopefully by the time im 23/24y.o.- it will definitely be a hood. most likely a KW W900.

I was born in '90. I want a hood truck that was built the year I was born. I've found a few Pete's that are '90 models but are either in bad condition or cost too much lol.

    I don't necessarily have to have a Pete, I'll take a w900(A or L), 379exhd, 389, 9900ix, classic XL, or 4900.

Gotta have a flat top sleeper, side stacks, and a wheelbase of at least 240"

As far as getting your license, good luck to you bro. Hopefully you can find a good intrastate job. Just make sure you save up enough money. I'm only 21, my goal to have my own truck is by the time I turn 24. I don't wanna rush anything and end up going broke.

just would like to add something i learned in the army, back when it was an army and not a big nursery. Pride, pride is something that we have as people, men and professional drivers. I had pride in my 85 W900B, just as well as i have pride in my 05 Volvo 670. When the time comes I will get another W900, then after that most probably another aero truck. You cannot compare an aero truck with a big hood truck. Its like comparing Hemi Cuda to a Chrysler 300. You cannot compare them.

Well I started off wanting a Pete or KW but as of late, I've been looking at them more and I like the looks of the W900 a little bit more than the 379/389. I just think it looks a little more bada** haha. And with the truck with the year I was born was one of my ideas, but the ones I've seen came down to the same thing you've found. Or I just don't like them usually for petty little things but when I go to buy my own truck, I want pride in it, and I want to WANT it, and cover my needs also of course.

Side stacks and flat top, are a definite for me. Not too sure of what I want for wheelbase YET lol.

And thank you, I hope I can find one too. I have talked to a member on here who worked for a company until he was 21 and made pretty good money. So before I get my CDL I'm gonna check that out. And I am definitely gonna save up the money to get, and same thing here, I dont wanna end up broke. So once I get OTR, I'll start talking to O/O at truck stops, and on here, and get all the info I can.

Also, best of luck to you too. Hope you get the truck you want and be a very successful "business" man and professional driver!!
