es , an industry with 90% turnover will always need interested young (and old) people to keep replacing the thousands that get uninterested in less than a year .
But there is no point trying right now to prepare for a career you can't enter for another 5 or 6 years from now. A lot will change by then.
No one said join the military . Yeah , I know . That could get you killed. Go to college instead ? I have news for you . If auto accidents are included there are more college students ages 18 to 24 that die as a result of alcohol related stupidy each year than there are military people in the same age group that die in combat .
Serve in the military and you'll get free tuition at state colleges.
Maybe then you will see there are better career choices than trucking.
There is a much better opportunity on cargo ships running the coast or river tugs. More freight will be moving there. Work 30 days on then 30 paid days off.
Time in the Navy learning a ship related trade would be a big plus

I'm not a trucking vet but if you're looking to fill some time between high school graduation and turning 21, learning Spanish would definitely be a worthwhile endeavor. That seems to open a lot of doors today, in any industry, and will probably open many more as time goes on.

If you want to start drving earlier than 21, I suggest you try the local moving companies in your area. I started driving for a moving company when I was 17 I just wasn't supposed to drive out of state. Good luck future driver:biggrin_25519:
