I've been driving for 10 years, and I have yet to see any breakout years... yeah, my fault *LOL* but now I'm curious... where is the $$, the high paying jobs ?? I know about the oil boom going on all over the country, butI live in central Indiana, where nothing is going on... so I think that if i do choose that route, I would need to work for a company with a really good rotation schedule... like 10 on, 5 off or whatever, and it would still pay me hand over fist to do that. In trucking, it's all time vs money, and i have yet to justify all of the time spent in and around the truck for the money that I have brought home. I may as well work at Wendys 14 hrs a day... at least I can get free eats and can walk to work LOL Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger....smh, I think i just made myself hungry. Or I could get a local gig, but outside of UPS, where should one go??

As I said, I've been in the industry a while, so if I have to get into anybodys truck, I need to get paid out th rectum!!!!!!!!!!!:biggrin_25520:

    So, what are your qualifications?

How many jobs have you had in those 10 years?

    How many accidents, tickets?

These all have bearing on your ability to make top dollar, at any company.

No accidents, tickets, or criminal record (and nothing pending). I've had about 5 or 6 jobs in 10 years

You need to bring something to the table to demand "Big bucks". A 10 year driver with 6 jobs......average at best. As you know, job applicants are a dime a dozen. Trucking companies know this and offer average pay, because a ton of applicants will take the bait, right ? So, polish your skills and try for heavy haul or something specialized, since there is no reason for any truck company to pay YOU big bucks.

agreed! the thing too that got me was how much dispatchers and recruiters were making.... ya mean to tell me that i can make over $50k as a dispatcher or recruiter??? They dont do half of the work and yet get home every night (after 8 hrs) and get paid than most truckers... SMH I'm in the wrong business lol

6 jobs in 10 years tells employers you're a job-hopper, and job-hopping looks horrible on any resume. Stick with a employer long enough, and they'll pay you more as years go by. You won't get top dollar anywhere without senority.

Dispatchers work more than 8 hrs, more like 12, more like $40k.

in a economy where everyone is looking for worki. there is no money to be made right now becuase there are lots of people williong to work for minimum wage righht now just to have a job.

the days of making money are gone.

i had a job of 8 years and got really good pay raises oger that time. back then it was hard to find workers. but then people lost there jobs. and were willing to take anything. so now, instead of starting pout at $14. the pay dropped to $10. and guess what. becuase there wages were cheaper. companies could afford to work them hours over the veterans that had been there awhile and were making more. so the higher paid workers got less and less hours.

the good days of making money aree gone. just like the housing industry is gone. other then highway and federal jobs. construction is virtually non existent these days.

in my home city. everyone is gone. the trucks i see floating around now. i never seen nor heard of back in the day. and all the players that WERE around. only one still stands. a couple of others are still around. but they're having a hard time rounding up jobs to build.
