becoming a owner operator i want to know how to get loaded

this job is becoming more automated every year.

first it was the cruise control. (very much needed accessory though) then came the eobr. then came the automatic.

what's next.

no...first came air ride!!! old school baby! but seriously, get some experience under you on someone elses dime first. Let THEM pay for the fuel, tires, insurance, ect, ect... AND IF YOU JUMP RIGHT INTO A LEASE PURCHASE PROGRAM, I'm sure we all can agree you're a dumb ###

 

Running a truck profitably is harder than you think.. It's not like starting up a landscape company, knocking on doors and pushing a mower, so to not know the business and jump head first into owning will be like doing a high dive into a kiddy pool...

Take a year or two, drive someone else's truck, and learn. Treat their truck as if it were your own, strive for the best fuel mileage you can get, and next month, try to beat it. Memorize that truck, front to back, top to bottom, and every noise it makes, and when something's not right, you will know where to start your troubleshooting.

You found this forum, so you're on the right track there... Read all you can in your time off the road. I lurked in the background reading here for 2 years before I bought my truck, taking everything in. I'd start looking for the answer to a question, find the answer and have 2 more questions I needed to answer. To this day, I still turn to this forum for guidance, and don't take everyone's answers as the gospel, use it to help formulate your own conclusions, because one mans business plan may not work for another mans business.

The big thing is to LEARN from experience. Running a successful trucking operation isn't taught in school, DEFINITELY not taught by lease purchase companies, or even here on the forums... ExPERiEnCE is the key.

reminds me of that show resteraunt impossible ....allways makes me laugh when these construction workers or whatever with 0 experience jump into owning a resteraunt and screw it all up ....of course i had six years in food service b4 i started driving but still concept the same .....i think maybe i should start a business doing breast implants any advice you think i could start off filling ziplock bags with crisco

 

Air Ride was not FIRST , more like SPRING ride seats and then power steering if you want to talk OLD school

 

GMC cabover I drove had a car shock under it, LOL that thing would still beat you like a step child.

 

I'm glad you said MOST!! haha I plan on trucking once I turn 18 and get my CDL A (or once I turn 21 if I can't find a good intrastate job) but I would much rather have a manual. Never driven a big rig, and never drove a manual, BUT a big rig with an auto trans, just doesn't seem right to me haha.

i see your close by. chester pa myself. while its good you aspire to great success i see your a student. brokers can be a great source if you know how to handle them. best advice drive a year or two first.
