I LOVE the pin heads that are in their own world. They don't want to be "bothered " by the riff raff on the radio. Yet when traffic stops they turn on the radio to join the rest of us who have had the info for miles ahead.

"What's the hang-up? What lane do I need to be in? Put your head phones back on and sit in what ever lane you're in!

I agree with you on that.My truck is going in for a body lift shortly and I don't have my radio connected because my dispatcher says "any time now"'. So I took it out so I don't have to rush at the last minute to do it. I'll tell you I miss not having it but I don't miss all the base stations telling me and others to go to another channel.

Want to listen to a typical conversation on the cb? Go to your local preschool, watch the fits, watch the little kids screaming at each other. Its about the same level of intelligence.

Sadly, you are pretty much spot on! The new breed aren't much use IMHO. Every now and then you can find one of us old timers to have a decent discussion with, but it is getting harder and harder!

Been on CB since 76. Been a Ham since 92. I spent some time on the ham bands but always went back to the CB. All through the 90's I remember yelling at the Taxi drivers around Chicago on the cb...lol. I have found that a lot of times Ham operators whine about the bad guys on CB but I never had those problems. There was a guy that ran central US called the GAY Cabulero. That guy was hilariuos. People have always cracked jokes and goofed off on the radio. When it was time to get down to business, they always shut up. They still do. I dont drive truck anymore but those goofy conversations helped me stay awake on many nights. I still talk on the cb but my 2 meter, 440, and 10 meter are collecting dust. My 11 meter base and mobiles are still blowing smoke though. Ham and CB are two different worlds and most of the complaints you read about CB are usualy from Hams. Reminds me of this guy that drove with us that used to cuss out the Gay Cabulero everytime he heard him out there. A real homophobe. When we cleaned out his truck there was a stack of "men only" magazines in there. Its ok fellow hams...you can come out of the closet now and admit you like 11 meter. No one will tease you.

I ran a mk2g for a while but didn't use it as much as I thought I would too much traffic on east coast. Running a 2 meter fm radio now nowhere near the repeater activity there was 10 years ago. When you tune your radio to 11 meters is the antenna also tuned to 11meters or for another band ? I've found my horizonal multiband dipole antenna not as good for listening to cb at home. Since your son has his ticket it may be a good way to enjoy the hobby while you are on the road. Depending on the truck you may have to do quite a bit of experimenting to get your cb or ham radio antenna systems working well. Good luck kb3csw
