waiver is running 90 days once it is turned in ....they received mine on april 26 was posted in federal register on june 6 and i get it in my hands 45 days from that date ....a very good improvement but dot wants your a1c above 7 for the waiver and you must get you blood sugar logs and driving logs audited by an endo quarterly to show that your sugar is above 100 and below 400 while driving .....also means testing every 2 to 4 hours once you go on duty yada yada .....i recommend the isulin therapy less side effects than pills and i found easier to control

    You mean below 7.0. :)

400 and I feel like total crap.

I know new physicals anything above 200 is an automatic fail.

nope requirements to keep your insulin waiver are to stay above 7 .....my endo thinks its a little nuts but dot is more afraid of you going hypo on insulin then hyper ......

and when they match your bs logs to your driving logs you must be over 100 and under 400 ...but i agree i try to stay around 100 to 140

Exactly what RM says. IF your wife isn't compliant with a diet and healthy lifestyle then her BG's are going to run that all the time. Doesn't mean it's normal. It's normal FOR HER, which is abnormal.

I used to have several frequent flyers who ran over 200 with no reaction.

I don't know about the waiver part, but that makes sense in a way. I'd much rather be hyper than hypo. But anything above 7 raises cardiovascular risks. Is it sugar shock or a heart attack? :)

All my charts and doctor show they want me below 7, preferably 6.5. My last DOT physical they had the A1C as 11.4 and wrote on the form "Uncontrolled Diabetes". That with Narcolepsy and sleep apnea got me disqualified.

In a way it was good they did. Four months later my RCA was 99% blocked and I was inches away from an MI. I knew I had to get off the road. I didn't want to be one of these drivers you see that run off the road or hit someone.

Some of the regulations are twisted, but they are pretty sharp on the medical program.

I can look back and see my vision blurring out was a direct result of my sugar before my diabetes was diagnosed. Today I can pretty much tell you my sugar by my eyesight. It's like a meter itself. :)

Thanks for sharing info on the waiver. We get many asking, but not many that have been through it.

actually there is some debate on the a1c issue still.....latest studies show that type1 diabetics with an a1c of 6 to 7 had a higher mortality rate than those between 7 and 8 or so my pcp said ....my endo was just tickled pink since my a1c in dec was over 15 while i was in dka....so 7.3 three months later and also 6 months later ....very good

not sure if i would want such tight control when i was still honeymooning for almost 4 years and they thought i was a type 2 i was so strict on my diet under 30 carbs a day that i almost feel liberated on insulin but the sucky thing about this condition everyone is different

and 38 days til i can put my truck on the road again ......just want to encourage people that are losing control of there D to consider coming off the road for the few months and get the waiver before you get the week long hospital stay that i earned would have been able to get the waiver three months faster without the recovery time and am much healthier now

At my DOT physical for employment at TA my urine came back over 1000. So I flunked. Off to the doc I went. A1C was 15 plus. 4 weeks later it is 9.8 and I am headed back to work. My diet has changed. Gone are the two liters of Rootbeer. Lots of water and lots of walking. I have lost 15 pounds and my dog hates me. I walk to fast for him.

I am going through the blurry eyesight thing but they believe that will clear up soon.

What really gets me is that chart above the scales. I am 5'8" and 204. The chart says that is Obese. Obese means fat. I am not fat. I am a few pounds overweight maybe but Obese. No way. No one is obese down here on De Nile. :biggrin_25519:

Good for you Wooly. I never heard of a 1000. That's through the roof. It's nothing to fool with. Believe me.

It'll mess with your eyes and nerves if left untreated. The nerve damage is irreversible.

Get them sugars and white carbohydrates out of your diet the best you can. The exercise helps tremendously.

i am supposed to take 2 whole glyburide a day i had a bad aic about 1 year ago of 9, at that time dr wanted me to go on insulin, i refused. i knew that would kill my ability to be trucker.
Now i check my blood sugar 3 times a day my average for last 28 days is 123 my highest in that span was 160 one time. I no Longer take glyburide 2x a day. i check my blood sugar. knowing 1 glyburide will knock my sugar down 75 points i choose to skip unless blood sugar is 140. because of glyburide i have had many instances of going low blood suger 50to 70. As i lose more weight i will eliminate these pills, metaformin never through me into low blood suger. so my prescribed daily regimen is 2 1000 doses of metaformin a day and 2 5 mg glyburide my last a1c was 6.8

Highest blood sugar reading was around 370 2x when i was at worst 1 time was a peanut buter and jelly samdwich and other time was a bag of pretzels. needless to say dont eat pretzels anymore or peanut butter and jelly
Have not been to doctor in year. no insurance. previous dr's wrote me 1 year of scripts so still have medicine. Once i move to indiana plan on seeing a dr there(next month) .
