Heavy Haul specs...

I have never done anything that heavy but I would ask for more power and an 18 speed.

 

Get at least a 485hp 1850 ft lbs torque rating if not more. I would want the 14,320 rated front end. Stay with the 3.55 gears and get an 18 speed.

 

20k front dual power steering, 46k rears full lockers, 18 speed with a 550hp. Big frame with insert.

 

What's your axle weights limited to? I've got 13k front and 46k rears (with worthless lockers I wouldn't order again) you don't need all the extra frame inserts and double steering boxes if your not allowed to have high axle weights.

For instance in Michigan they gross 164k but they're only carrying 13k per axle on axles closer than 9' and 18k on 9' and greater. Kentucky allows coal trucks to gross over 170k but they only carry 12k on the steering so there isn't any need for a 20k axle. So it really all depends on how much weight the truck itself will actually see. Adding stuff you don't need just raises the price and the empty weight.

You will also want to consider putting on wide flotation tires on the front if you are going to go heavier all the time.

Years ago, ran an old Int'l set-up similar but with a 13 spd. We didn't have the flotation tires on the front, but there were times we should have. Especially when the front started to push that 20K limit. We would run 108,800K hauling jet fuel and grain.

remember you have to keep it under 600 psi road pressure on the tires.
