Just wondering if there are any road service companies out there for truckers, just like Triple A for cars?
I'd hate to pay full retail pricing for a tow, Thanks

Never heard of one. I am thinking of starting one. $100/month with one year agreement and call it 1-800-rip-u-off because that's what most heavy haul tow companies do. Especially Webb's Towing in Auburndale, Florida. Service call to just show up is $150. That's on top of what they will charge for the work. Then they wonder why tow companies are being called from other counties to do the work.

You guys checked the price of a Heavy wrecker lately? Think about the fact that most wrecker outfits have at least two. They don't run constantly every day like your highway tractor but they still gotta be paid for.

So when you call out a wrecker or even a "road service" truck for some piddly little thing think about what yoour boss is gonna be thinking about you.

Which is why you contact your company and let THEM decide if they want you to try to handle it, or get it done by a so called "professional." A lot of these bigger companies don't want you to do anything more than perhaps change out a fuse.

OTOH, if you're an O/O and can fix it yourself, why pay a tow, unless you are a hazard where you are?

A while back, I saw an ad for this very service. You join for a fee and call them when you break down and get "special " rates. However, I'm sure they contract with your run-of-the-mill tow outfits from around the country. Haven't seen this ad in a while.

This is exactly what I'm trying to avoid, getting stuck on the road, then just have some guy take me for everything I saved for in the last few weeks. It will take me weeks to have some kind of spending money. Working hard, loosing sleep, and owing money to some wrecker is no way for a decent man to live.
It sounds like this is something we should look into??

So, how often do you need a tow?

Happened to me once, I got stuck in mud.
It cost $250 to pull be out.

    Was that high?

I am a company driver and my company would probably have paid for it.
I paid it myself though, as a lesson to myself that stupid mistakes cost someone to fix.

And personally, I don't think I was overcharged.
Those big tow trucks cost a lot of money, and they are sitting more than towing.

Another subject matter that wasn't mentioned in truck school.....what to do when you break down 1200 mi from home.

I don't know how often I need a tow, I did need one last week, blew an air bag in fontana ca, was quoted $600 for 2 mile tow:biggrin_2556:. Limped it over instead, I couldn't imagine the price if I was farther away. I have an older truck, so it has me a little worried.

On another note, looked into OOIDA, and noticed they have insurance coverage for a breakdown, at $299 a year for 50 mile coverage
