Honestly when I came into trucking I thought I really would be $50-$60K but didn't care too much if I never came home but boy was I shocked!

Did anyone see last nights new Ice Road Truckers? A tit mouse in the truck caused some nasty sickness.
The social diseases have really escalated at the truck stops.
Lot lizards are now infected with mice, and made one of the regulars on the show deathly ill.

I am not buying the driver shortage whine either. What industry cuts pay and freezes wages when they have a shortage of coals for the fire?

Back in the day they proclaimed proudly what their mileage pay was. Now they say we have competitive pay, or potential pay if you never go home and creatively log.

Airline industry is doing it as well. Think about that next time you fly, that your pilot probably makes less than you do and just as tired. Yay cheap labor. Plenty more where we came from.

They're in CDL mills with government grants . Their supplemental income in their no tell motel on wheels will allow them to survive on BFI wages.
Is not logging their sleeper berth times as On Duty a violation of HOS ?

Most people have no idea how true this is. An entry level pilot (copilot in a regional jet) makes about the same per year as an OTR entry level truckdriver. But that airline pilot is 30-50k in the hole from the cost of obtaining his licenses and hours.

But what will a pilot be making in 5 years compared to what an OTR driver will be making in 5 years ?

About the same. The aviation industry SUCKS until you either get real seniority (takes several years) or you have the experience and connections to get one of the few well paying jobs.
