Can any BCOs tell me how much theyre paying for unladen, phys damage insurance through landstar? Just trying to line up all my fixed costs and havent been able to see the numbers of what LS has. Or if i need to get quotes from ooida and others.

Talking with my agent on insurance,

IF you use a value of about 3.4-3.8% of value of truck for bobtail insurance, you'll be close enough for planning purposes for the budget.

Mine was within about $20 of the final cost and it was actually high compared to actual.

From my research....only Landstar has the unladen insurance required to sign on. Checked with several insurance companies, including OOIDA and they all said that Unladen insurance is a thing of the past and they don't carry it. Will have to ask my wife what we are paying for Unladen insurance. seems to me it is like $25 per week but will double check.

Unladen liability is pretty much the same as bobtail insurance. Premiums seem to run about $40-70/month. Landstar has their own insurance company where you can purchase the unladen liability if you don't want to go outside to an independent agent. Physical damage premiums are based upon the "stated value" of the equipment. Costs run 2 1/2-5% of the stated value of the equipment. Most pay around 3 1/2-4 1/2%. OOIDA is one of any number of companies that can sell you physical damage insurance. I think you will find that Landstar charges about the same as most others for their insurance. You should be able to call their corporate office and ask for their insurance department to get an exact figure for both types of insurance at Landstar.

Unladen is $19.45 per week. Physical damage is $40 per month, per $10,000 valuation, through Gallagher (LS).

LS physical damage is high, I run mine through OOIDA and it is much cheaper. You pretty much HAVE to buy the unladen through Gallagher as no other company will write the policy the way that LS requires.
