Just note - to anyone that sets Prefer Freeways, it will keep you on controlled access roads till it needs to take you off, this may mean extra miles on the route.

    Thanks,
    Mark

never noticed the small roads option, that sounds interesting. with my 700 i would sometimes set it to prefer freeways just to see a different option, sometimes if it only added 20 miles or something i would just go with that. nice to have more options

Ran navigation from Denver to Hutchinson using three of the choices under [FREEWAYS]- [ALLOW ALL], [PREFER FREEWAYS], and [AVOID SMALL ROADS] ( capital letters are referenced to the soft keys on the 720. I am not yelling). Major route changes among the three. Defiantly a very powerful feature of the 720. I love the idea of having the ability change routes and comparing them before navigating. Worked well when I tried it on this Hutchinson run.

Based upon the choices, what was the shortest distance and longest distance in mileage you were given?

    Thanks,
    Mark

Okay Mark- these are based from my fuel stop in Colby KS to Hutchinson KS.

    Shortest: [ALLOW ALL] 233 miles
    Longest: [PREFER FREEWAYS] 261 miles
Middle: [AVOID SMALL ROADS] 249 miles

I ran the last calculation for two reasons. 1. It avoids downtown Hutchinson. And 2, I'm very familiar with both KS61 and US50 which is the routing around Hutchinson.

This was from- Pilot ( Booselmans) Colby KS
To Dillions- 2700 E 4th Ave, Hutchinson KS

On this current run Mark, using [AVOID SMALL ROADS]. Can't give out the details till after delivery but will be glad to if desired. As I mentioned, the options under freeways gives the user powerful control over the navigation of the 720. But as such, it places more of a demand on the user to actually be more involved in the process. If not, the user might miss an easier or better route that the 720 might come up with. The functionality is there- take advantage of it.

Okay-off the soap box. Anyhow, personally speaking, I think I like the [AVOID SMALL ROADS] the best. It's almost-at least so far- like practical routing.
