im with SHC if you have a good surcharge going, plan your trip better and lift on the right foot, and enjoy the extra money that puts in your pocket, it works

i dont get a fuel surcharge but i will keep hauling as long as i can keep making a profit. the only thing i gain by being an owner operator is control, if i shut down while others dont they'll make my two days worth of profits. I need that money to pay for the tires i just bought.
a guarantee fleet operators will not shut down their fleets for two days. i cant miss work for two days for this. i miss enough already because of weather, contractors equipment breakdowns, and various other factors beyond my control. i appreciate your enthusiasm but do not think this "shut down" will benefit me or reduce the price of fuel.

Why do you blame the oil companies?

Two weeks is enough time for most companies to plan for this.... just as you will need to plan as an O/O, they will plan too. They can get by for two days. Only way you can do this & plan for it is shut down until the price of fuel goes down & freight goes up. Truck drivers & O/O cant wait that long. It would take a HUGE organization of O/O & drivers to band together... that's something that won't ever happen. Its been talked about since the oil embargo's of the Crater administration of the 1970's.

Its not us that call's the shots. Its the oil industry & the politicians who own shares in the oil industry that calls the shots.

I shut down on my own schedule when I can't get a rate. Just came off 6 weeks of "protesting", with one bad day on a good load resulting in an overhaul in the middle of that stretch, and I was shocked to discover for the most part rates are about the same and fuel surprisingly rose to $4 a gallon. I shut down for 2 weeks in Jan and nothing changed. Nothing I can do about that except for only hauling profitable loads. I think most of the ones calling for strikes or whatever need to take a look in the mirror and accept responsibility for their own actions. Just because I couldn't get a rate during any given part of a year doesn't mean others can't, and doesn't mean the cheap freight will ever disappear either, so why should I expect anyone else to quit working to no effect if they're all making money? The problem is much deeper than good ol punching bags like oil companies and politicians and shutting down will accomplish what exactly? What did the strikes from the 70's really accomplish?

You think the fuel in the pumps wasn't already paid for? Do you think that one small(in comparison)refinery fire last week affected fuel prices "RIGHT AWAY"? They paid for the fuel in the pumps six months ago so why is it that we hear of something that happened half a world away or in California's "WORLD" and BAM fuel prices shoot up overnight.

The barrel price has been falling for the last 4 months and the only difference at the pumps is a few cent's over that period but when something happens that Speculators "THINK" will affect us wham overnight jumps of 5,10,15 cents and then up more over the next few days.

Just saying it's to benefit everybody but the consumer and yes the FSC really is good for high fuel prices it's just the high prices get to me and I'm a company driver ;)

It's not just the price of fuel, it's rates in general. Driver wages aren't keeping up with inflation. The cost of eating on the road keeps going up but not wages. the cost of raising families is going up, but not wages.
Drivers are mere tools of the industry. Puppets, mind numbed robots. That's what the industry wants. That way they can keep their costs down. Drivers are second class citizens.
