It can be quite a transition. Ill never forget the day I locked my apartment and handed in the keys. Having no place to live as a trucker is more of a mental thing that anything though. I only take off 4 days every 3 months; the more I roll the more I make. Try to ignore the financial aspect until you get your own truck, because if you really look at it its pretty depressing.
Now that I've been on the road a little while I'm doing pretty good. Making descent money and happy with what I do. My truck is my home, and that doesn't bother me at all. with no apartment comes no bills, and I'm saving money extremely fast.
Just think of it as an adventure and you'll be just fine.

I'll do that! Thanks! I saw your thread ... just didn't want to hijack it or make it about us. Glad you're enjoying following our adventure! It's nice to know you're out there.Lenrod Thanks this. -
Neither of us has ever been convicted of anything nor released (from where?). But thanks for the luck, we'll take it! -

We have been googling all things trucker related ... and reading, reading, reading until our eyes cross. We've found some really interesting things, but the most fun and entertaining (to date) are this guy's videos on youtube. His name is Vince and he takes the viewer along with him on his truck, explaining things along the way, showing the countryside he's driving through and talking about what it's like to be a trucker. We sit at my computer monitor for an hour or so each night, watching Vince drive, visit truck stops, look for places to park his rig, load and unload, complete paperwork and talk about what he's doing and how far he has to drive each day. And he loves his job.
The videos are a couple years old and there are 21 of them to watch. The music is really great too!
What strikes me most about Vince is his temperament. He remains even-tempered through everything that he is faced with each day and I think that's the most important lesson we can learn as new truck drivers... to stay cool, calm and collected, no matter what we're faced with, (and we'll be faced with a LOT of different situations in this business).
If you haven't seen his videos yet, here is a link. His name is journey95, so in case the link doesn't work, you can google him.
Enjoy! We sure did!

Thank you SO MUCH for those links! Just finished watching Big Rig, wow! That was very moving, a powerful documentary. I laughed and I cried while watching it. It literally left me speechless.
We'll watch the other one later tonight.
Thanks again...ac120 Thanks this. -
It's been fun reading your thread. My wife and I are making preparations to make the switch as well, and we are very excited. You should look up Big Rig Talk with Jerry Ott on youtube as well. He's Canadian and is very entertaining. Keep the posts comin'!

Good luck to you and your wife, keep in touch and let us know how you're doing ... it's good to hear from others like us. Are you also going to leave everything behind and live in the truck?CarRamRod Thanks this.
