I'm curious as to how much more insurance would be to have another driver on your truck?
Do insurance companies verify how much experience a driver has when coming up with a quote?
I've been entertaining the idea of a carrier outsourcing their training of a student to an O/O, for circumstances such as the carrier doesn't have enough trainers, etc.
I'm wondering if there is any kind of market for that, and how much a carrier is willing to pay to outsource the training of a student to another company or O/O.
I wonder if this is viable?jennings Thanks this. -
Everything is always a question of money. And a new driver with zero OTR is going to be expensive (double or more) on insurance plus you are looking at limited options.
You will notice that carriers that do this are self insured (the ones that I have looked at) and use a big insurance company to administer the insurance. When you are talking 1,000's of trucks the can do this and keep over all insurance expenses down.BigJohn54 Thanks this. -
There are a lot of trucking Companies out there ...But if you are UN Insurable....You won't even be able to drive Your Own Truck!... -
IMHO, the answer is no. This is because of what Bill explained. It could easily cost an O/O $4000 more a year to put a zero experience trainee behind the wheel while a self-insured carrier will experience no upfront costs. They could not afford to pay you enough to make it worthwhile when they can do it for so little. -
With the FMSCR rule. You have to go to an acredited driving school. Unfortunitly for us real drivers they included Swift as an acredited school. Pretty sure thier hire you and train you. BUT you will be extremely limited to what you can haul and where you can pickup and deliver to. I hear MaDonalds is hiring.

I've never had my insurance company ask about who was driving the trucks or how much experience they have. Maybe I'm just lucky.

I have a Felony on my record and Ive never been without a job. Still driving also, have alot of job offers too. Its about showing that what happened in the past is just that...The past. Not everyone can learn from their mistakes, you have to show them you have. Good Luck. Take care.
