Ok here goes.I have been a driver for 19 years, been in the industry for 30, and have worked a number, and variety of companies. I have watched the industry change from something you could enjoy doing into an industry today where no one cares at all, especially for the driver, and even less for their families, or home time. The OTR companies today will, AND DO BOLD FACED LIE to the driver, then line their pockets at their expense. The only thing that matters is individual profit, and that does not mean the driver. You as a driver are a disposable commodity for their use, AND THE WORST OF THE WORST IS HEARTLAND (HEARTLESS) EXPRESS. They wil lie to you on their advertisements, through their recruiters, in orientation, all the way up to the minute you get in the truck, then all pretense goes out the window. Three out of four weekends home?
Forget that and turn it around, three to for weeks, (or longer) out and home for 34. During that time they will get you to within 2 hours of home, then send you the other direction. If you complain they will let you sit 5 to 8 hours then give you a load and expect you to split log or drive all night to do the load, and refuse? Dont even think about it! Heartland is forced dispatch, you argue, your fired at which time they will back charge you for anything wrong with the truck, keys, tech books, and anything else they can imagine to steal from you, and punish you for leaving, and the do all of this (and more) knowing full well their doing it, and blatently enjoying every minute of it. I never worked for a company more blatently cruel, corrupt, vile, pathetic, decietful, vindictive, or vengeful. Thinking about heartland? RUN LIKE HELL!
If you feel that you must drive over the road here are your choices;
1- US Express. 3 to 5 weeks out, lies are minimal, a day for every week your out, non forced dispatch.
2- JB Hunt INTERMODAL/REGIONAL, I stress intermodal/regional. The otr is being phased down if not out and are as bad as heartland. The intermodal division will not lie to you, and you will be home every weekend for 2 days. They will work with you. Good equipment, decent people, no strings.
All the rest? Dont bother unless you simply have a desire to be treated like crap, taken advantage of, lied to, and belittled, I.E.,
