Well I've been off the road for 9 months now. Working a government h job. I'm itching to get back on the road. Most of my driving experience has been in some kind of dedicated position running between Michigan, new Jersey, and south Carolina. When I get back on the road (when, not if), I want to get back to the western states now and then. I spoke with an owner from Abilene motor express a few days ago. He assured me that I'll sacrifice some hometime to make that happen, but they have runs going that way. So yea, I'm ready to give up my cushy, home by 2pm, pension- earning racket to bust my butt for my check again. Call me sick, but i miss it terribly... Wish me luck!

OK, I wish you luck. Now that that is done, have you considered seeing a psychiatrist?:biggrin_25511:

Why don't you spend the next 20 years in your cushy, home by 2pm job until you can collect your pension. Then you can go play with trucks. That way, you really can pick and choose what you want to do.

It sure worked for me, anyhow!:yes2557:

I would be keeping the cushy government job with all the good benefits that come with it... You need to look for the final outcome, for the future... When you get old and are ready to retire you will be glad that the cushy government pension will be waiting for you... Or the benefits that you need when you get old and sick and needs 1000's of dollars worth of medications... The overtime pay that usually kicks in after 8hrs of work a day... If I were you I would look for the long term rather then short term.. I won't be leaving my City job unless we have some major cut backs and I get laid off.. In other words I won't leave by my choice...

The like Big Don said.... You retire with a good pension, collect the pension money and go OTR.. By that time you could maybe get a gig where you can enjoy the time on the road doing loads that allow for longer delivery windows... This way you can make money trucking and enjoy the country sort of like going on a vacation...

I like what I do.. I work for the government in a City job and I also drive tractor trailer so for me I have the best of both worlds.. I make good money and I still get to be in the BIG trucks and home everyday ;)

    Whatever you choose good luck!!!

Big Don and 58Skylane Thank this.

Depending on The election outcome that Cushy Gov Job might get you a good severance package if you can hang on for one more year! Of course If you wait and the current guy can get re elected you pension could go broke and we my have to learn Chinese to keep our trucking jobs! THGhost

Bravo! I did it years ago. Left the pension racket and didn't look back. I feel fortunate to have been able to do things I liked and found interesting to make a living with.
