Tinting on truck windows is legal

OK, here goes, I guess my biggest question has to do with common sense, I DO UNDERSTAND from an officers stand point of wanting to be able to see what the person is doing that he/she just pulled over. Hell, I wouldn't want to just walk up on anyone without being able to SEE what they were doing.

HOWEVER and this is where common sense comes into it, an officer walking up on a car is at midriff level looking DOWN into a car, with dark, tinted windows he is really can't see what is going on, I GET THAT.

NOW along that same line, YOU show me a trooper that is big enough to stand on the ground and LOOK into the window of my PETE (and I have known some BIG troopers) and I can see the point.

BUT they can't without stepping up on that running board, at that point, it really doesn't matter if there is tint on the window or not, he IS at head shot level at that point and he is in a bad position no matter what.

I guess I would really like a number of how many, if any, officers were ever shot at from inside a big rig, I would guess none, IF you have a number on this please educate me.

As a side note, I always either have my door open or my window down before the officer ever gets to the truck! It just seems like an unnecessary regulation that does have health consequenses over the long term for the driver.

On my personal vehicle i have very dark tint, I live in Vegas, and in the summer gets very hot, It does help keep it cooler inside, only reason I can see that having tint is illegal is the LEO's cant see inside your vehicle

 

Only reason that I can see that they "HAVE" to see in the truck is the possible ticket for seat belt violation and now the ignorant touching of a cell phone.

 

I think the rules have less to do with LEO vision into your vehicle from outside and more to do with your vision outside onto the road/surroundings. That's just my opinion, feel free to tear that to shreds.

As dor the DOT approved stamp on the box, sure they can put that on there. It just might not mean what you think it means. It could simply mean that if your base glazing is 0% that it meets DOT requirements. But in the real world we know that windows do not have a zero base. Or it. Could mean something else.

 

You must never have been in a vehicle with dark windows. You have no problem seeing out. The tint is also somewhat reflective so the rays of the sun do not get in.

 

Living in Florida the first thing to do is have your windows on POV's tinted, if not you will be baked even in the winter. I can see out fine at night and to be honest headlight glare is far less. Now if the law would start cracking down on the off road lights installed on cars that would be some real revenue.

 

Okay for a car, where they might have a weapon, drugs or god knows what.

But, god forbid on a truck, where they might not be wearing the seat belt.

 

Yes in deed, just some feel good regulation to enhance revenue.

 

I see a lot of trucks with side windows tinted. A couple you could barely see in. I've wondered what the deal was on that. I'd love to put some tinting on my doors but instead just use one of those retractable sun shades that sticks to the window. Works really good, IMO.

 

How about getting some sunglasses and forget about the tinting. Just saying
